Owner description: Set majestically on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning promises a unique experience not to be missed where your visit includes both dinner and a show all under one roof in a beautiful converted water mill. Start your visit with a drink (or two...) in the Water Wheel Bar or, if you visit us in the summer, take a sunny seat outside on the Mill Stream Terrace. From the bar you will make your way upstairs to our restaurant, with views out over the mill stream, where you will find your tickets and programme waiting on your table. The main course is served in buffet style but our friendly staff will be on hand to take your drinks and dessert orders. After enjoying our mouth-watering menu, prepared daily in our kitchens using only the best locally sourced ingredients, you can make your way into the main event of your visit - the theatre! The Mill Theatre itself is an intimate venue, seating just over 200 people, air conditioned with spacious and comfy seats that won't leave you longing for legroom or calling for a cushion. During the year we produce a wide variety of plays in the theatre, ranging from comedies to thrillers, as well as hosting regular music and comedy nights that will have you dancing and rolling in the aisles. Whatever your tastes, in both theatre and food, you will be sure to find something to whet your appetite here at The Mill.

Went here last night to see The Merseybeats in Concert. The venue is being refurbished but this did not stop our enjoying the evening. There is a clear procedure that most seemed aware of but not us. No problem though. We were first shown to our table ordered drinks and then went to the buffet. Most went to get their... More

Educating Rita was great and enjoyable, slightly irritated by the audience who hooted with laughter at anything either actor said, however I've been to many Edinburgh fringe performances and can cope. The meal was an absolute disaster, I don't need warm carbs any longer and being asked to finish my pud before I was allowed a cup of tea reminded... More

We had an excellent buffet-style lunch, with a wide choice of hot dishes, all immaculately prepared. Puddings were served at the tables, including a wonderful Sticky Toffee Pudding and Baked Apple with Raisins and Cinnamon. Yum! The play was "Educating Rita", which was a brilliant production and as good as the famous Michael Caine/Julie Walters movie, and enjoyed every bit... More

We were a regular theatre goers here but gave up as the food was so school dinner that we had enough. We did however give it another go to see Educating Rita. The play was great and we had a very entertaining evening. Under refurbishment with the bar down stairs closed it was enjoyable to have a drink at the table.... More

I have been to The Mill four times now and look forward to Dead of Night in April. Only once has it let me down and that was during the meal. Unbelievably twice within 10 minutes red wine was spilt on the table and on the jacket of a member of my party. I felt the manager should have come... More

Went to see the Educating Rita show last Sunday matinee - fantastic - I had just run the Wokingham Half Marathon, so was all set for a good feed, and the Steak and Ale Pie, with heaps of Mash, Veg and Gravy, exactly met my requirements, washed down with a 6X - marvellous. Happily, I still had room for the... More

This is the only theatre I have come across where the buyer cannot select where they sit. Do not sit at the sides of the theatre as you miss a great deal of the action.

This was a late Xmas treat to see Educating Rita. You arrive about 7pm for dinner then the play started at 8.15pm. I was not expecting it to be so entertaining. The two actors were absolutely brilliant and it was a really enjoyable experience. The Mill is very old but was warm and cosy. The only thing that lets it... More

A converted Mill, serving buffet meals, and then watch a show in the intimate theatre seating approximately 300 people. A recommended night out.

This is my wife and I's second visit this year. After pre lunch drink in bar area one climbs stairs to wait in line to choose your meal from the extensive buffet display before being led to your assigned table where you have ample time to eat before the start of the performance in the theatre. The food is tasty,... More
