No good for disabled. Too far to walk. Castle not all its cracked up tp be for price paid. Gardens were fab and very colourful. Castle was a shell only. The big house there was no entry which was a shame.

What an amazing transformation. We visited some time ago just as the gardens were being restored and before work started I the glasshouse. To see the difference is just brilliant and all involved should be congratulated. We had a wonderful walk around the grounds seeing some spectacular azalias and rhododendrons and then the fabulous exotic plants in the glasshouse, inspirational!

We're so pleased that our visitors can see the hard work that went into restoring the conservatory, it will only get better as the plants mature. Thank you. More

Twice this month (May) we have taken the free guided tour of the rhododendrons and Azalias with Fred, a retired, Wentworth Castle gardener, and enjoyed them very much. Each tour took 2hrs 45mins and had to be booked at the visitor centre in advance. The gardens are spectacular at this time of year. They include The Wilderness Garden, The Union... More

The gardens are especially good in the spring and autumn. Its well worth including a good walk around the grounds and countryside. Many footpaths in the area and we did a circular route route to see different vistas on the edge of the Peak District. Found the secluded heronry and Rockley Furnace. Climbed the "castle" folly, for fantastic 360 view... More

Thank you, we do have some lovely walks around the estate. The plants in the conservatory are filling out since they were planted, in another couple of years, they'll have taken over if we don't watch out. More

Beautiful place to visit able to walk with the deer got some amazing pictures, the gardens are enchanting and the folly is loverly if you climb to the top. Wonderfull views over Barnsley. We went on to try out to see if suitable for wheelchair and although it was manageable it would be tricky in parts.

So glad you enjoyed your visit. Our golf buggies for the less mobile are bookable in advance and can get to most parts of the Gardens. More

Formal gardens, conservatory and “folly” ruins, allow 2+ hours for a wander, 3 if the weather is nice enough for a picnic. Good view across Barnsley and the surrounding area. Free guided walks sometimes available for serious gardeners. It is pretty much like many other places of this type. Entrance fee for ornamental gardens, but free walk through deer park... More

I have visited here a number of times now and it's definitely one of my favourite places to spend a few hours. The gardens are beautiful and there is plenty of history to be seen, for example the Glass House which is a Victirian Conservatory that was restored in 2013, Stainborough Castle ruin, you can climb a turret and get... In fine weather, the grounds - gardens, parkland, castle - are excellent for families. The children's adventure playground is also very well received by younger children. The Cafe's OK too.
