We love a visit up to Peel Tower and Holcombe Hill. On a nice day there's nothing nicer. It's a good trek up a long steep track but the views at the top can be rather breathtaking so it's very much worth your while if you can manage it. The tower itself is interesting to climb and very much worth... More

I took some fabulous photos of Bury and many other parts of Greater Manchester this morning. The views in the sun were breathtaking. You could clearly see the our great city of Manchester with the Coop HQ, tower and Beetham Tower in good view. I was speaking to an American couple who had come over explaining to them GOW Peel... Had a good walk up Holcombe Moor this afternoon via the bridle path from the Hare & Hounds, all the way up to Pee Tower - clear blue skies showed off the surrounding Lancashire countryside in all its glory - Winter Hill, Musbury Tor and Helmshore, Edenfield and Scout Moor, Darwen Moors all the way over to moorland surrounding Rossendale.... A fantastic monument, worth the walk up Holcombe Hill. Then the knee wobbling steps to the top of the tower for views that are stunning. Small charge to go up. Open when the flag is flying.

Set off from the purpose built car park on the main road and walked across the road and followed several footpath signs and made my way up a steep climb to the top. The views are good if the weather is right but alas I was above the layer of fog Crisp clear air Walked back on a gravel road... More

Excellent for people who enjoy a good walk, especially with dogs. The pathways are not really suited to people with acessibility needs especially wheelchairs. The hill is quite steep, wear decent footwear. You can do a full circle, if you set off from the Shoulder of Mutton go Anti-Clockwise. The Tower itself is only open at certain times. For opening... A good ramble over the Holcombe moors and a bracing climb to the top is well worth the views around Holcombe, Helmshore, Ramsbottom, Bury surrounded by beautiful Lancashire countryside. You can also see all the way to Manchester - not sure that's a good thing though :)

Sadly the tower isn't always open but still a fab place to view the whole of Greater Manchester, you can see fab views of the city especially the Beetham Tower and Coop insurance tower. A good stretch of the legs also 😊

Having lived near Boradway tower in Worcestershire I was expecting this to be a little more developed. Don't get me wrong the views are incredible and it lovely on the top of the hill but the monument itself is being left. There a big rusty door with a hole in that has rubbish Piling up inside. When we went the... More
