What a great museum this is, if you are in the area to visit Avebury and Stonehenge you just have to visit the museum. Set out over four floors with a great section on the prehistoric landscape and full of great artefacts, you can learn so much. The museum covers every era of the local area from Neolithic man, the... This museum is a must see companion visit to Stonehenge and the other historic sites in the Salisbury area. The depth of coverage this museum has is amazing. Seeing the artifacts and reading the insightful attached information placards puts a face to the people who lived during the neolithic, bronze and iron ages and beyond. It helped me to form... More

We visited this wonderful museum when in Devizes. It is run by volunteers and they are really welcoming and friendly. The exhibits are most interesting covering some early and more recent history. They are well set out and the information provided is very clear. There are some fascinating individual exhibits with excellent video clips which give thorough explanations. Great for... More

The Wiltshire Museum gives a great explanation of life in ancient times, showing many artifacts from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze and Iron ages. We stopped on our way to Avebury to see the stone circle, and it helped our understanding enormously. I only wish we had come sooner and had more time because Devzies was having a farmers' market, and... More

I have taken my daughter her a few times since she was about 6 years old - she's now 9yrs old and each time she has enjoyed herself looking around and interacting with the displays. However, we have only been here when admission is free - its £6 per adult normally which is quite expensive when you can really only... More

We visited here on a wet afternoon and enjoyed looking around the museum's various exhibits. As we live near Devizes, it was interesting to read about history in a local context. The staff are welcoming, the museum compact but full of things to look at and read about. There is a small shop and the museum is centrally located so... More

Yesterday we took off from Bradford-on- Avon to visit the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes. We arrived at 15 hr, but at the front door we discover the museum was closed for the day. A bit disappointed we left, but after only 20 yd's a man asked whether we came to visit the museum, it was by coincidence the museum director.... More

We visited this museum to see the gold finds from Stonehenge. These in themselves were fascinating, but the Museum was a mine of info about the local area - we learned more about pre-history and the context of Stonehenge than we did from the Stonehenge Visitor Centre Exhibition itself. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to study the later displays... More
