What a great museum. I have driven past on a number of occasions but eventually stopped. I should have done so years ago. A brilliant museum with an outstanding new display of the gold artefacts and Stonehenge. The staff are brilliant, very knowledgeable and willing to help. I was researching my village history and the staff could not have been... More

The museum in Devizes offers an excellent insight into the local history of the surrounding area. For a small town, this museum is exceptional, putting on special displays from time to time focusing on different aspects of local history. The area is rich in ancient stone circles, burial mounds, Roman remains which are shown and explained in a way that... More

I visited this small but well stocked museum on a recent stay in the Devizes area with friends who live there. The museum was bigger than it appeared and was very well laid out in chronological order with all the exhibits very clearly annotated. This gave detailed information on the archaeology of the area, highlighting areas of specific interest. While... More

A wonderful museum, not too big but an asset particularly if someone intends to visit Avebury and Cor y Cewri (Stonehenge). This is what every town/community should have, well done to all who are involved with this excellent work. Not only its a museum its has also a huge archive of of local records and documents for all to see,... More

If you have at least 2 or 3 hours to spare, the museum in Devizes is well worth visiting to discover the historical background to the area & to see ancient artefacts related to its early inhabitants. We were impressed with the display of the exhibits. Whilst we were there there was a temporary exhibition related to crop circles which... More

There's an awful lot here to inform on the pre Roman history of Wiltshire. All very well presented. Some other local history as well and stuff about Devizes itself, but we went principally for the ancient history. There was also an exhibition on crop circles which certainly opened my eyes and made me think that perhaps they are not all... More

An afternoon well spent. Good value for money. The crop circle exhibition in itself was worth the visit. This museum gave me good insight into the area and stimulated me to do more research at my leisure. Suitable for all ages. Give yourself at least a couple of hours?

Having visited Devizes regularly for about the last fifteen years, I had never quite made it to the Wiltshire Museum. Although not one of the largest I have visited, the museum was well presented, clean and easily accessible. Exhibits were well thought out and were both general and locally focussed. Of interest on this visit was the temporary exhibition on... More
