I heard, San Juan del Sur Beach is the Miami Beach of Nicaragua, and they are right. The view is super gorgeous especially their sunsets, very colorful. The town is quite crowded but not overcrowded which actually something I prefer. Parties everywhere, lots of bars to choose from and did I said, everything is cheap.

The view is gorgeous, especially at sunset. However, if one more person asks me to buy fake RayBans, weed, or a hammock I'm going to freak out. I don't mean to sound hateful, everyone has to stay on their grind... I get it. It's just that when the same 6 people come ask you to buy the same thing 10... More

Beaches get crowded with buses, local people insult you or worst rob you. drunks walk the streets and beach. garbage all over. people defecate on beach or the water, so be careful what comes floating your way. No bathrooms anywhere. Electricity goes out, so your room is hot as a sauna, and if you are lucky, the water does not... More

I have mixed feelings about the San Juan del Sur beach, the beach itself is not great, the sand is dark and there is no shade or chairs beside the one at the restaurants. I only see one public restroom so if you hotel is not close and you don't want to eat, it might be a problem. We visit... More

Laid back, small village town, friendly people and good folks all around. The off-the-beaten path places: great, made from scratch crepes at the corner across from the town's main park, Juanita's char-grilled chicken and carne asada on the same block as the town's marketplace.

the town of san juan del sur is great...the beach is ok. from what I understand the nicest beaches are just a few miles in either direction, although I didn't go. It just lacks the kind of sand and shade of water that beautiful beaches have. Good place to hang out in one of the restaurants on the beach though.

Don't really understand some of the hype, but the beach is average at best. Really. The water is nice and clear and such, but no waves to "hang ten" with. There is no shade anywhere -- no palm trees, no parasols, no cabanas. Oh, plus the sand is an unappealing shade of blackish-grey. (That's not to say that black sand... More

Absolutely beautiful beach! Quite, clean, nice beach restaurants. You can also pay in dollars in the most restaurants.

Lots of locals and travelers intermingling, getting their buzz on and enjoying the town. I wasn't there to surf but met some very interesting people while I was there. I have fond memories.

Im skeptical about vacation beaches that don't have the typical clear blue waters and white sand. SJDL beach however was awesome! It was so much fun to play in the waves, and the water actually is clear most of the days, the sand it just darker therefore the water the looks darker. We walked all the way to the end... More
