Check it out. Liberty has the best instruction on the East coast and maybe in the country. For a small mountain they pack in a lot of terrain for all levels of skiing. I've skied the northeast and out west but for a local area I never tire of Liberty. The slope maintenance is some of the best anywhere. Get... More

Not a very good mountain. The runs are VERY short, and there is very little variety. They do have a little bit of ungroomed/mogul stuff on the back of the mountain, but the runs are so short that you will spend far more time on the lifts than you will skiing. (Note that ALL of the challenging stuff is located... More

Skiing is a special event for me. I learned to ski in Switzerland in the 1960's but now live in Virginia, so being able to take a snow day with only 1 and 1/2 hour drive is a real treat. I was delighted at how good the conditions were without a natural snowfall. The staff in the equipment rental area... More

Only a handful of beginner runs. Nice if you have all levels of skiers that want to ski together. It's definitely not even comparable to skiing in Utah or the Alps...but...if you don't want to drive far. Less than 5 hrs from Virginia Beach, depends on the traffic.

I enjoy Liberty better than Roundtop or Whitetail with two separate ski area (front and back), plus J-bar for the terrain park, yet I don't come here often because food service seems to be worse of three. Presidential weekend, Sunday, due to Very cold weather, place was very slow, around 7pm Sneaky Pete Pizza was closed, and we had to... More

Went up on a Friday mid-day hoping to avoid the crowds tubing as discussed in other posts. However even at 2 in the afternoon it was packed with unsupervised unruly children. The bathrooms were gross, with toilets overflowing. A bottle of water if $5. All of this was trumped by the kids. Children under 13 should be required to have... More

These aren't big mountains, but it's enough for great family fun skiing, snowboarding and tubing. The lessons are great, and the staff is very helpful and friendly.

Pros: True, Liberty is only a 90-minute drive from DC so it makes for an easy day trip or weekend trip. So hence, it was SUPER CROWDED on Super Bowl Sunday. Cons: TOO CROWDED ON WEEKENDS. Too many beginners of all ages packed in a small amount of space relative to what’s available to intermediate and expert skiers on the... More

As a pre-teen in the late 1970's Liberty and it's sister resort Round Top were local favorites of mine. I hadn't been back to Liberty until February 2 when I took my 10 1/2 year old son. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. It was my first time back since they opened the back side of the mountain... More

I have no intention of ever skiing but when my family pursued a girl scout field trip - I tagged along. I have never been to a ski resort - seemed nice - had nothing to compare it too. Although I was not skiing - the staff could not be nicer - the greeters - the helmet renters - the... More
