At one time the Salem Public Library was rated one of the busiest library's in the country for cities the size of Salem. It has a great selection and is part of the Chemeketa Library system which allows you to order books from other libraries.

People need to know what a treasurer Salem Oregon has in it's library. From the Friends Store that sells posters, books, cups, other gagetry, to the children's section upstairs, to the rental of old vinyl and artwork, the have an endless variety of entertainment. And you can always find a quiet corner to read.

The library seems like it would be much better if it didn't smell like pee. I couldn't stand it enough to stay.

Stop by the library to admire the fine collection of Northwest art purchased by the Library Foundation. Original paintings, prints, and sculpture are displayed on all three floors. A separate "Art to Go" collection of original art is available to check out at no cost! When in the Children's Dept., don't miss the skylight w/12 etched glass panels depicting classic... More

I love the Salem Library for several reasons. First, they have an amazing childrens' section upstairs, where there is the Discovery Room, which changes themes several times a year, giving children hands' on discovery of science, food, and much more. There are several computers with educational and fun games kids can sign up for using in 30 minute increments, and,... More

I love the library for the variety of books, the help you can get in finding one, the knowledge of the librarians, and their children's programs.

LIbraries have always been a comforting place for me. And being from a smaller town, I enjoy going to the Salem Library as well.

Salem is a member of a regional library system. They will retrieve titles from other libraries, and have them waiting for you to pick up. The hours unfortunately are not as extensive as the community might like, due to budgetary reasons, but are mostly convenient. Friends of the Library sponsors very popular book sales. The Library has a wide assortment... More
