it's free within downtown portland, what else can you ask for?

Excellent transport within portland city center. It's free so it's a good way to get around within the city. Once you get outside the perimeter you have to pay the transit fare.

Due to an airline glitch, we had an opportunity to make use of MAX. Very easy to use. Just make sure to get on the correct train line, i.e. red, blue, etc. Red will travel to and from the airport. I believe the cost was something like $5/person for an all day pass.

We left our car at the motel and traveled exclusively on the MAX. A train came by every 15 minutes and took us everywhere we wanted to go. No hassle with downtown parking and google maps will give you directions to get places using the MAX. An easy and stress free way to travel around Portland.

All of my MAX experiences are great. It can be a bit nerve wracking on the platforms at times with some people looking a bit scarey, but overall I always feel safe on the trains and love looking out the windows. Trains are fast, clean, and some of the nicest I have ever been on. I've been on trains in... More

The Max is a great way to get to the airport. It takes longer than driving but drops you off at the door. Unless traveling at peak commuter times, there is plenty of room for luggage and no one looks at you like you are doing something weird. It's also a fun way to get out to Hillsboro - riding... More

We stayed 2 blocks from the Parkrose Sumner station and used the system daily on our recent visit to Portland. It is very nice that a daily rate is offered for $5 and one can use the MAX, buses and streetcar. No need to be driving a rental and paying for parking when this option is readily available. It does... More

I live in Beaverton and use MAX on a regular basis when I'm going into Portland for events (soccer, basketball, concerts, etc) and don't want to fight traffic. I also sometimes take it out to the airport when travelling. It is mass transit and unfortunately Tri-Met (the local transit agency) doesn't provide as many ticket monitors as other cities do... We love MAX and use it all the time. There are buses close to our home that take us to a rail station. Great times to take MAX: 1. Snowing: we take MAX home from the airport rather than asking someone to drive to get us. 2. Sporting events: we take MAX to reduce the number of cars that need... More

We took the light rail from Portland airport to downtown and it is true It is very simple to go in and out but you don't have many trains on schedule so you can wait 20 minutes as we did and there are not so many seatings during rush Hours. Though It is very cheap (5 dollars per day) and... More

I downloaded the TriMet Ticket app, which was much better than dealing with paper tickets. Rode on 2 work days and a weekend. All on time. Rode between Hillsboro Fairgrounds and the Oregon Convention Center, and always had a seat. The riders are definitely different on Saturday! I never felt unsafe, and enjoyed not fighting traffic and finding parking in... More
