You can get anywhere in the city and surrounding suburbs on the Max. I was able to go from the airport area to downtown and then to Washington Park. It was fast and a great way to beat traffic.

I live in Puget Sound and compared to Portland area, our public transport is a tragedy and a disgrace. It's a delight to get around so easily. Take the train or bus to Portland and not need a car at all.

Portland has one of the best public transportation systems in the United States. The whole system is called Tri-met and the light rail trains consists of five color coded lines and are nicknamed MAX. Portland often hosts city planners from other countries who visit just to study Trimet, because the system is that good! I'm a local and I often... More

MAX is by far one of the most popular ways of reaching Portland from the suburbs and from the PDX airport (and vice versa). If you are flying in Portland, don't bother with cabs or Uber. Max is far cheaper, it will take bikers, hikers, business people and travelers and in about 20 minutes you are in downtown Portland. It... More

The MAX is relatively safe and clean. Although it only has a few lines, the airport line is great, and passes through scenic areas of the city, such as Goose Hollow.

Our hotel was near the Conv center and downtown was not within walking distance, so we use the MAX. This was cheap and easy to navigate our way into the City.

I got this light surface rail in and out of airport. It was low cost and very pleasant experience. I recommend it.

The airport station is conveniently located at the end of baggage claim at Portland Airport. We used the machine to buy a 2.5 hour pass for $2.50. There was also a full day pass that included buses for $5. When we rode it was not rush hour and had no issues sitting with luggage.

We used theTrimex bus and MAX very often to go in and out of the city centre. Trains and busses are on time, we always found seating and was spotlessly clean. it was very easy to plan our trips with their handy tripplanner on their website where they direct you to the nearest bus or max station to your location...
