Free within parts of City Center Portland! It's a fun thing to do with the kids. They enjoy riding around town. Just make sure it's not at the time of a Blazers game (some people might have had too much to drink and make the experience less fun for the family).

I'm not sure what I think?! Rode the MAX off and on this past weekend while in PDX. Rode it from the airport into downtown and also to the Expo Center. While the system works, it's very slow and just seems to be tired and run down. As a few other reviewers have mentioned, there appear to be alot of... More

Okay, so I'm sure I'm disagreeing with a lot of people on here, but after using MAX for over 7 years, this is what I have to say. SNAIL RAIL! It is soooo slow! It crawls through downtown and is completely not worth it if you're going anywhere else besides downtown. If you want to get from the east side... More

I find it baffling that the Portland MAX is so often touted as a great model for the rest of the country. I guess it comes from the attitude that it's better than having nothing at all, which is only marginally true in this case. The fundamental flaw with the MAX is that it runs on the surface streets, barely... More

I have been on every rail rapid transit system in the United States, and MAX is one of the very best. Their success, actually, has helped spread the "light rail revolution" throughout the country. It is unfortunate, though, that economic times have forced them to seek revenue by selling shrink-wrapped ads on their trains. Portland is such a beautiful city,... More

We stayed at jantzen beach and found this a quick, easy and cheap way to get into the city. We were able to get off right where we wanted to be. A great system

We rode MAX tonight. Though I would not call it an attraction I would say it is a great asset to a cool city, the MAX is clean, efficient and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I was a bit uncomfortable when four men in security and police uniform boarded our train and pulled the man off the train who I was sitting... More

I am a long time user of the MAX and can say that it's well priced, pretty efficient and fairly reliable. No city metro system is COMPLETELY well priced/efficient/reliable. The MAX is one of the best I've ever had to rely on though. My only qualm is that it could run a little later. But other than that, it's perfectly... More

Free parking and then a quick ride downtown. Gave us a chance to look around and see some of the city. Dropped us off right in the middle of downtown.

We were staying out at Jantzen Beach, so it was easy for us to jump in the car and go to the Delta Park Station and ride into downtown. A cheap $5 pass for the whole day at the easy-to-use ticket kiosk, and we were off. The trains are quick, especially out in the suburbs. Downtown, they slow down quite... More
