When I have friends come in from out of town I like to tour them through the Kennedy School. It feels very Portland. It is also my favorite place to see a movie. It is an old elementary school that has been renovated, they changed old classrooms into cigar lounges, bars, restaurants, you can stay overnight in the hotel, they... More

It's wonderful to see such a beautiful school saved from the wrecking ball and turned into such an eclectic fun space. Comfortable and quirky, we had a great visit. Wish we were staying longer.

Love LOVE lOvE this place. One of the reason we came to Portland is to explore these McMenamins, Fun and Quirky. Our service was slow and food was cold. It was corrected and the food was delicious! Yum

We had not stayed here but had visited before and enjoyed ourselves. A great place to start at if you've never been to a McMenamins before. And if you have? Great! The soaking pool was ours this morning and yesterday afternoon we and all others enjoying the pool were witnesses to the wedding on the opposite side of the fence.... More

I had lunch and cocktails at the courtyard with my parents and brother. I got the cucumber margarita and it was a delightful summer drink. I also got the strawberry goat cheese salad and just loved it!!! We also order the hummus plate, the pita was probably the best I ever ate!!! Our waitress was a doll and made sure... More

Tired of the same old chain hotels. Stay here. It's so cool. The hotel was actually a school which was built in the early 1900s and was slated for demolition. Such great atmosphere, and so laid back. We stayed in the old wing which was an actual classroom. Very spacious and the shower had great pressure. I loved walking through... More

My wife and I traveled to Portland in the summer of 2014. We love the city for many reasons. A friend from Calgary told us about the Kennedy school and the Alberta Street Art district near the school. Both are worth a visit and the School is a must for anyone with an educational background. It has been transformed into... More

Beer is spendy -- but every micro brew is... which is why PBR is the #1 selling draft in Portland. But, grab a pizza and pitcher and go watch a movie with your friends.. and you will still be cheaper than if you went to the same movie with a soda and popcorn a month before.... even a matinee.

This pub is in an elementary school that was shut down. McMenamins takes old buildings and makes them really interesting while preserving much of the history. Really interesting building and they have some community events there as well. Really worth seeing. The food is a bit over priced and the service can get slow when busy but still a Portland... More
