This pub is in an elementary school that was shut down. McMenamins takes old buildings and makes them really interesting while preserving much of the history. Really interesting building and they have some community events there as well. Really worth seeing. The food is a bit over priced and the service can get slow when busy but still a Portland... More

The Kennedy School is one of my favorite McMenamins locations. Decent (but not great) food, great bars, a living room type cinema and even a swimming pool. Absolutely fantastic how they transformed the old school while keeping its authenticity. Highly recommended for a visit.

On my trip to Portland, my friends took me to this place. It was amazing. I couldn't believe what they were able to turn this old school into. The food and beer is amazing as well, only wish I could get it here in Phoenix,AZ

Loved the concert venue. Happened to be an extrordinaly hot day, so we heading into the hotel's bar for a bit as we arrived early. The air conditioning wasn't working in that part of the old building, made it very uncomfortable. Had a burger there that was delicious, worth trying the place again someday. Lots of weddings happening on the... More

Just love this place! Each of the classrooms in the historic Kennedy School was turned into a hotel room. It's just such a cool place to stay with so many activities, such as a movie theater, pool, games .... You will love it! It's part of the McMenamins historic hotels. Our Portland B&B hostess recommended my daughter and I take in the 'Mommy Matinee' offered in the theatre. We enjoyed a bargain film together on comfy loveseats and reasonably priced popcorn and ginger ale. Love this place now and look forward to going again with my other kids.

Typical McMenamin's fare and prices – that is, fair – but the real attraction is this wonderful room in this beautifully repurposed school. A must check-it-out destination, whether it's to eat or see a movie or stay.

This place is unique & just great!! I'm here with my 11-yr-old granddaughter. Totally wonderful & memorable. Tip: when reserving online, make sure you get into the school bldg itself, not the annex--if you care, that is. I wanted to be in the school house proper, but mistakenly picked a room in an addition. Luckily the (really great in all... More

Stayed for one night on a Saturday. We had two double queen rooms. Both rooms were similar except they were on opposite sides of the hallway. Our room faced the sidewalk and there was some noise from the people walking outside. The other side faces the courtyard and was a bit quieter. Check in was quick and they offered fresh... More

The Kennedy School in the Alberta Arts district is definitely a must see. Opened in 1915, later abandoned and taken over by the McMenamins Group, it has been beautifully restored and its hallways are covered in incredible artwork. The school is huge, with sprawling wings in which you can find a theatre, a soaking pool, a restaurant with a beautiful... More
