Portland and Amtrak have not learned from the successful renovations and commercializations of great old train stations such as Union Station in Washington DC and Grand Central in New York. This one is industrial, poor HVAC, busy with homelessness and smells of musty urine. More

I really like the building but haven't been to many train stations so have no way to really compare. Since I live in the Portland area and have been there more times than I can count (in 60+ years) I did not want to over-rate it but, of the train stations I have seen, this one is definitely best so... Cities in the Midwest don't have regular Amtrak schedules like out here. Riding up to Seattle is cheaper and more comfortable than driving. What a great way to go up for a game or just to hang out in the city. More

Arrived at the station early A.M. parked in the garage across the street with no problem. Stepping into the station was like traveling back in time. Building is ornate and could use a little T.L.C. but all the personnel were polite and knowledgeable about the schedules and facilities I hear some renovations are in the works. Good deal ! ....
