What a waste of time. You can visit any basement and get the same feeling. The guide did know a lot about his marked route but the suspense of getting to the tunnels was killing us. When we arrived back at our starting point, we were ready to explore the tunnels. Well that's where it ended. It was there basement.... More

If you are an open minded person, looking for something interesting and on the historical side of things -- do this tour. Michael the tour guide and curator is very knowledgeable about portlands seedy underside. He delivers the history in a charismatic way--- mixed with some ghostly drama here and there. I didn't think it was boring or dry at... More

I'm conflicted on how to write this review. I've read the several other reviews, and, while I found the experience interesting, I cannot argue with what they are claiming. The tour is billed as a Shanghai Tunnels (plural) tour, which implies that tour-goers are going to travel through tunnels. However, and as most other reviewers have stated, this tour actually... I've never been so compelled to go out of my way to review sites like this and post negative reviews until I took this 'tour' of some well placed wood and dirt. This is to the point where I feel like the false advertising should be criminal, and the people running it paying out fines for all the money they... More

This trip was just wrong. It basically was all storytelling by extremely talented guy, who was making every possible effort to build an atmosphere of suspense and adventure. I hardly believe it was true. And all of that inside basically a basement, not tunnels. A huge basement under building (or several buildings) ground level, divided into sections through which you... This is beyond false advertising. If you want to fork over money to stand in the dingy basement of a bar while someone tells you interesting stories about how men were imprisoned, then go for it. Otherwise go to the library and read about this disturbing set of circumstances and save your cash. There was some random dude making "recordings... More

Never ever fall for this load of steaming putrid false advertising. This is advertised as historical, educational, etc, and is nothing more than a bunch of suckers standing in a dusty restaurant storage room basement, with $13 less per person. Do not take my word for it, search further, check Wikipedia, check the BBB, check any where. Donate your $13... More

This was complete mis-representation! My family visited from out of town and wanted to see the tunnels... Their website stated that they'v recently excavated more tunnels and found more artifacts. This excited us, so we signed up.... When we got there, we received 1hr 15min of walking the streets of portland and learning about its history. At the last 10-15... More

This was awful. You never leave the basement of the Hobo. You see three rooms and hear a lot about how earthquake prodding is ruining the tunnels. Instead of taking the tour, just look at the 10 pics. They really are the entire tour.

I've been here twice and enjoyed both tours. The staff is knowledgeable. The tour takes about 90 minutes. Just wish there were more rooms open to the public. While I expected it to be cool underground, be prepared... it is actually quite warm and we were all wanting to shed layers. We signed up for our tour online and had... More
