I've been here twice and enjoyed both tours. The staff is knowledgeable. The tour takes about 90 minutes. Just wish there were more rooms open to the public. While I expected it to be cool underground, be prepared... it is actually quite warm and we were all wanting to shed layers. We signed up for our tour online and had... More

I have been wanting to visit the Shanghai Tunnels for a long time but just never got around to it - until last week. I wish I would've looked up reviews beforehand but I didn't. It should be called the Shanghai Basement. We paid $13 each for the regular tour, but the guide kept talking about ghost stories every 5... More

My family of four were looking forward to touring the Shanghai Tunnels in Portland last week. We love history, especially unusual topics. We bought our tickets online easily, and there was no problem checking in to start of the "tour." I put that in quotes, because while we visualized walking around underneath Portland from tunnel to tunnel, we actually went... More

I was scarred at first but once down in the tunnel I was fine. It was neat to see the history down there. THe guide gave a lot of information. Great artifacts unfourtannly due to theft they lost a lot of there artifacts. I would do the tours again if I am back in town.

You meet at Hobo's which is a restaurant/Pub. Once the guide arrives you then move to the back courtyard for orientation. Once that is done you go through a door into what was once an alley that has 2 big metal doors on the right and then onto the street. Once on the street you go up to the corner... More

The guide seemed fairly knowledgeable about the history of Portland, and going through a dark basement as you're being told about the history of opium dens and the like is a pretty entertaining way to learn about it. However, the host lost some credibility with the number of times he mentioned the tunnels being haunted, claiming people on every tour... More

We took the Underground Portland tour through Cascade Geographical Society, after seeing the location on a Ghost Adventures episode. Just to see the tunnels is quite an experience…imagining the terror and demise of so many unfortunate people, and knowing that many people lost their lives in those tunnels is haunting enough. There were a couple times during the tour we... More

I'm surprised people just accept the stories the guide tells at face value. Going through the tour, our group was pretty incredulous about most of the things the guide was saying. Afterwards, we researched it a bit and found there was no basis for most of it and most of it was easily disprovable. (To make a long story short,... More

Fascinating and a step back in time and history. Great insight into portland's past. Guide was very knowledgable. Good shoes and an open mind required. A few steps down into the underground and duck your head. Uneven surfaces so make sure you pick up one of the torches at the bottom of the stairs. Highly recommended.

The tour guide does a great job of making the tour fun and comical while also reminding guests of the horror that happened to the men and women who were enslaved. We met at Hobos in the courtyard. The tour took about an hour and a half. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Also, it gets rather warm down there... More
