We went to the Classical Chinese Garden on our second trip to Portland, having visited the famous Rose Gardens the first. In contrast to the Rose Gardens, which was certainly pretty but seemed disorganized, the Classical Chinese Garden is a marvel of organization and beauty in small spaces. The tour was both informative and low key. Walking among the dozens... more

This place is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. The gardens are beautiful and well-maintained and there are plenty of nooks and crannys to get lost in. Stop and have a cuppa in the tea room and be sure to get your fortune. more

The garden is beautiful, tranquil, serene and an absolute delight to walk through. It is pretty flat throughout, so it's quite an easy walk over beautiful cobblestone pathways past small Chinese buildings, abstract art, small ponds, and beautiful lush plants. Although it can't be more than a couple of acres, the garden uses all of the available space quite economically.... more

My mother-in-law and her sons came to visit, and we took them here. She was about to have surgery to remove cancer, so it was a great option because (1) it's not too large, (2) it's close to all public transit options and (3) very tranquil. It was very informative, there were so many places to take beautiful family photos,... more

Lovely, serene and a welcome respite from the city outside it's walls, this garden and it's teahouse were the perfect way to enjoy an afternoon in Portland. more

Very authentic garden. $8.50 adult admission, 50 cents off for AAA members. Call to find out the times for free tours. The tour guides offer a lot of cultural background of the place which are invaluable. Allow at least 1.5 hrs. more

I live near Portland and the Chinese Gardens is always on my list of places to see with my visitors. It is simply beautiful. While within the walls of the Gardens, look up and you will see the high rises of downtown Portland. My favorite stop is the tea house. There is a unique selection of teas - a little... more

Given the small size and urban location, I had pretty modest expectations for Portland's Classical Chinese Garden--and was I ever wrong! It really is compact, but the design offers something in every nook and cranny to engage your imagination. Don't worry if you can't time your visit to coincide with a formal tour. Knowledgeable, friendly docents stroll the grounds and... more
