Visiting in July, the zoo is open until 7:00 so we did not get there until late afternoon to avoid the crowds. While there were very few people there, it also meant that most of the animals were sleeping or even off exhibit back in their housing areas. The exhibits areas were very well done and the grounds were well... More

Oregon Zoo is in a heavily planted area with lots of native plants, many with identifying labels. There is a backyard makeover exhibit with worm bin [!] as well as awareness of the intertwine of animals and plants throughout.

Love this zoo. We go to Portland frequently but have not been to the zoo since I was a child. It was excellent! So mcuch to see! Great variety and layout! It was very full and yet it never felt overcrowded or to the point where you cannot see the animals past the crowds. I felt admission was very reasonable!!... More

I've been to many zoos; I'm not sure Portlanders realize what they've got here. The setting for the zoo is extraordinarily beautiful and the habitats are especially well done. It's also amazingly clean. I was very impressed.

Several high school students were there at different areas and they were eager to share and educate. I loved one woman volunteer who showed us how to nod "no" to the gorilla and show our teeth and he would go it back. It was a greeting and she was informative and fun. Parking was tough. Lot was full but I... More

Nice variety of animals and good attempts to upgrade old exhibits into more natural habitats. We especially enjoyed the section that focused on Pacific Northwest animals. It was $25 for 2 adults and parking and we were able to see everything in about 2 hours.

We just moved to the area and were very excited about visiting a "real" zoo. This zoo is very well planned out...The designers put a lot of planning into the flow of the zoo, as if you were on a guided tour. They also have a lot of foliage through the park, along the pathway...with name plates of the different... More
