We live in San Diego so of course we have access to the world famous San Diego zoo. This was what I had to compare the Oregon Zoo to. This zoo is pretty small and uncreative with it's attractions and they way the animals are presented. The elephant enclosure was under construction....so no elephants. I did find two things that... The Oregon Zoo is clean, well maintained and fun for all ages. The exhibits are well done and the animals are well cared for. The animals are usually active. Avoid extremely hot days.

The setting for the zoo is just lovely. I visited in November and, while it was chilly, the trails through the forest were really wonderful. There was quite a bit of reno happening which is great for the animals-larger pens with more realistic areas in which they can romp. The zoo was well-attended by families and couples enjoying the atmosphere.... More

Very well thought out exhibits. The enclosures are large and TViewing is easy. The terrain is varied and tends to be a long walk back up. The most interesting exhibits are toward the bottom of the zoo, so worth the exertion. Concerts are also available in the Summer. We were there in Winter, so the animals were a bit lethargic.... Great variety of well-cared-for animals, food, relaxation points, and education. Don't leave without a train ride. We were zoo members for many years when my daughters were young. They loved it, of course. Zoolights are terrific around the holidays.

Who doesn't like the animals? Or seeing families and young children experience the big creatures as close as they'll probably ever get? The thrill and the smiles say it all. A lot of controversy surrounds zoos in general, but the Oregon Zoo has gone to great lengths, research and expense to accomodate their guests in a realistic and comfortable way.... More

Great zoo! My then 18-month old toddler loved it. It's so easy to get there by light rail if you don't drive. With the light rail tickets, the zoo gives out a great discount. The path for stroller pushing/walking is great too. I spent almost half the day there with my baby, but I didn't feel it was too much... More
