I used to live in San Diego, so, of course, any zoo I visit will have to compare to the San Diego Zoo. The Oregon Zoo isn't bad; they're working on growing and adding more animals. You have to pay to park, unless you take MAX, which stops right at the zoo. Food is expensive (as with all attractions). Zoo... More

This zoo ranks among the top two or three I have ever visited, and that group includes the National Zoo in DC and the San Diego Zoo. (Okay, given that august pair, this probably puts the Oregon Zoo at #3, though it might give the National Zoo a run for its money.) As with many modern zoos, this one is... More

Even though it was pouring rain and cold, the zoo was in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees in the hills of Portland. Great exhibits and good to know many of the animals had been rescued. I have never been that close to a bald eagle. Many animals were keeping out of the rain, but it was still a beautiful... More

Gorgeous animals. Lots to see. Go check it out! They do concerts here in the summer too. Makes it a little inconvenient trying to walk around park, and I'm a little against the idea of having loud concerts next to a bunch of animals homes, but I guess it's what they do to make money and stay open.

The zoo is fun for everyone...the family, date night or even an outing by yourself. It is always fun to pack a lunch and picnic in the grassy area by the elephants. I love how many interactive exhibits there are, keeps everyone entertained. I also enjoy going at Christmas time for the zoo lights. Good times.

Full disclosure: I dislike zoos in general. This one is probably no worse than most. I've singled it out for a bad review because of its locally infamous treatment of its elephants. The zoo itself became famous decades ago for its leading elephant breeding program. But fast forward to the present, when we know that it's cruel to force captive... More

Take the Tri-Met trolley, $2.00 all day for retired people, 20 minutes from downtown. Easy, fun trip. the Zoo is outstanding and we've visited many over the years. Sections include Shoreline, Pacific Rim, Africa, Ocean, Bugs, Birds, Snakes, Spiders. 3 hours will do it. Be set to see many animals of which you've only heard. Easy on the legs. Warnings... More

I kind of did a speed-tour of the zoo as I was short on time, but I could see it was very well organized. I didn't see some of the animals I was expecting to see, like giraffes, and there was some construction happening, but I have no doubt that this zoo is on it's way to becoming one of... More

We really enjoyed this zoo. Very pretty. It was a cold rainy day so not all the animals were out and about-- but on the other hand it wasn't crowded with people. I liked the way they had it set up with a few different viewing areas to see the same animals depending on where they were in their environment.... More

This is a really nice zoo, one of the best we've visited. We especially like to come to the zoo for the many summer concerts they offer. It's great
