The property is pretty large, but not a huge number of different animals. The surrounding park is very nice, lush, typical of Pacific Northwest. Similar in feel to point defiance in tacoma, wa but smaller. Visited during record heat and many animals were hiding out in their cool spots out of sight. Many others were busy and happy. Seems to... love the zoo, especially at christmas with the many christmas lights, the grounds are full of animal lights. Some of the animals are up at night due to cold weather still the best place to go for christmas lights

The only problem that I ever have is getting turned around and having a hard time finding specific animals. It is easier to just trust serendipity to show you the parts you need to see.

I visited this zoo over 15 years ago and remember it being a beautiful part is of Washington park. I was sad to find that the zoo didn't seem to be the same when we took our toddler this past spring. It is however under construction and it appears that are taking great strides to encorperate the natural environment and... More

Depending on the time of day you go there may or may not be animals for you to see. There aren't enough water stations around for you to refill water cups and the restrooms often need attention. One the weekends it is too overcrowded for small children to see anything as they don't seem to limit entrance at all. The... More

I came for the snakes, insects/arachnids, and bats. The bat exhibit was fabulous! They had several kinds of fruit bats, including my my favorite, the flying fox. The snakes and insect collections on the other hand were disappointing. There were a total of 4 snakes (3 different species). The insect zoo was tiny and could only be viewed from the... More

I visited the Oregon Zoo with my daughter and her family, since my grandson couldn't remember going to a zoo when he was younger. It was a beautiful warm day and we were anticipating an exciting day at the zoo. But what I found was animal living areas which were not maintained, dirty, and smelly; especially the Penguin environment. To... More

The Oregon Zoo was a good time with our family and young children. Nothing too special though. Animal exhibits were average. The zoo layout and ambiance was very nice. Very clean. Friendly and it wasn't expensive. Food options were significant limited beyond French fries, hamburgers, and corn dogs. I guess I expected more... All and all, a fun day in... More

I was very impressed with the layout of this zoo, the environment, and the variety of animals. Rather than overload the visitor with a lot of animals, they seem to focus on the exhibits and flora/fauna. The setting is wonderful with all the trees and slightly hilly. The only drawback for us was we went on a summer Friday (June... More

Quite a variation of animals, but the zoo lacks ambience. I suspect its poor rhino pacing back and forth in his enclosure will welcome the renovations that include enlarging his home. The lion enclosure is impressive; it's nice to see a pride. I understand there is a herd of 7 elephants but they were a no-show. Two to three hours... More
