The MAX light rail system goes either side of this central paved multi-level square which acts as a central point and includes a few small food and drink stalls plus the city visitor centre hidden under the fountains at one side. Many of the bricks in the paving are engraved with names which is a nice touch. Plenty of places... More

I was visiting Portland for a conference that used the square for part of it, but there always seems to be something going on at or near the square. It's a cool little area with the waterfall. Public transportation stops right at the square so it's crazy easy to get to and from there.

if your coming to town for a visit you really should walk through the square. There is a little bit of everything that happens here. Good eats around the periphery streets, the typical street preacher, at any one time there is at least 30 homeless folks just hanging out, concerts, and art displays. Its a must see for local color.... More

There are often cool things happening here, rain or shine. If you're in town, it's worth checking the events calendar to see if something you'd enjoy is going on here.

I love heading down to the square during the holidays for the GIANT Christmas tree lighting. Thousands of people come out to see the 40-60 ft. tree get turned on for the first time before Christmas. Special events like Flix on the Bricks or small concerts in the square are routine throughout the summer months and the fountains are a... More

You get a sense of Portland when you visit the square. This is a hub of activity and during warm and cold months always has something new to see. Take a moment to sit and people watch. If you take public transport, you will undoubtedly stop by here.

I guess we missed the charm of this area. We walked through twice and found it to be dirty and crowded with a large number of homeless folks. I have no problem with that, but don't rate it highly as a tourist destination.

Pioneer Courthouse Square is a fun area. Good public transportation to get there, very easy. Food carts around the area and within several blocks, lots of shopping, restaurants, and good people watching. In the summer there are outdoor activities and families can enjoy themselves, and outdoor movies play for free.

This just a standard download park in the middle of downtown Portland. The train stops here. A big Starbucks is here too. Great to sit and relax and peoplewatch.

It doesn't make any difference when you stroll through the square...it's simply a pleasant place to be. Many times as I'm walking through the downtown or waiting for the MAX train, I'll just find a place along the brickwork and just watch the people go by. Of course it is the constant venue of all sorts of activity, but, because... More
