Love the Oregon State Parks and this one is exemplary. Plentiful variety of spaces, good roads, lots of trails around campground. 3 paved trails to the beach, marked 1/4 mi, 1/3 mi, and ½ mile trails, each with a single sand dune to go over to beach, and a paved South Jetty Trail– super for bicycles. A Cooper Ridge Nature... More

Been here literally hundreds of times as a local, this is where we walk our lab, generally not too dog-friendly...there are apparently no off-leash areas which is ridiculous in an area this large. Way too many "hosts" way too little done. Camping over the wknd; they blocked all but A-C loops, everyone crammed together, real problem they closed the "c"... More

I was impressed by this wide, beautiful beach and the perfectly-forming waves rolling in. South Beach is popular with dog-walkers and surfers and is great for families and for people-watching. There is a large parking lot in the Day Use area, with a boardwalk leading about a mile to the beach. The Camping Area also has a good paved path... More

We stopped for a stroll but have camped here in the past and really enjoyed it. Yurts are fun but tent or RV camping is nice here as well. Beach walkway is nice and the expansive trails and roads are great for biking, too. Fun to watch the surfers, or surf yourself if you do. Bring a kite! Very good... More

You can watch the surfers here (or surf if you do that). Nice picnic area and restrooms but no beach view. You have to go over the dunes. Interesting beach to walk as it is not all flat. Camping available.

My wife and I have camped at S. Beach State Park many times, often taking the grandchildren. The last venture was with grandchildren and their parents. Great hiking trails and play areas for the whole family. A half mile walk to either the beach or the South Jetty on the Yaquina River to watch the boats come and go.

This park has it all. There is great camping facilities. The day-use area has nice restrooms and easy access to the beach. There are also wonderful paved nature trails all over the park that are worth checking out.

Wow, there are so many great parks on the Oregon shore and this is a super scenic one. There are lots of spots to get the perfect photo here and hopefully the crowds will be as light as they were in mid-October when we were there.

I like this park as it has both sunny and shady campsites and is close to the beach. It gets crowded so reservations are suggested though spots usually turn up at the last minute since many people book 9 months in advance and then have a change in plans. It's only about a mile south of the Newport marina.
