Helvetia Winery is only 15 minutes from my home in Portland, but it seems like a world away. I love driving up back woods roads, past red barns and alpaca farms and finally landing at John Platt's Helvetia Winery. I've started making it a monthly visit, and I love that I can fill up my bouteilles (think growler, only a... More

Our first visit to the Helvetia Wine tasting was a groupon experience. John, the owner does a wonderful presentation for the understanding of wine, how the Columbia gorge was developed, even went for a ride to the vines down the road to see where they grow. Wednesday nites from May to September there is usually music after 5:00 pm. and... More

We stumbled upon this vineyard while searching on Google a new place to wine taste. They pair their wines with delicious canned smoked salmon, which in and of itself is worth the trip. The wines are pretty good, and I like the stories behind how it was started. Definitely worth a trip.

We happened to catch a day of music, food, and wine tasting at Helvetia this weekend, and the staff were quite lovely learning and using the first name of each of their visitors while we were there. The music certainly had a bit of a boho vibe working for it, and the quirky quesadillas being served were delish. The wines... More

Stopped by today on a whim while we were out for a drive. Drove away with two growlers of wine. Nice and helpful people. Nice picnic area if you pack a lunch in. We will be back to refill!

This winery is close to Portland, where we live, and the drive there is lovely. The couple who run the vineyard are extremely friendly and the tasting room is the kitchen of their farmhouse. We bought a chilled white ($13) and a couple of cans of local salmon and had a picnic in their backyard with cheese and crackers that... More

Beautiful country, and you feel totally out of the hustle here. The wines were average IMHO. Also good for salmon BBQ's and fresh salmon from local fishers.

The Hillsboro countryside is gorgeous. This area used to be called Grape Hill when it was settled and this particular property has been growing grapes for more than 100 years. You get to enjoy the original farmhouse, vintage winery equipment and pictures of Yungen family. There is also a gift shop in an old barn and it looks like they... More
