After a visit to Oregon Caves our group of 6 were looking for a place to swim on a hot afternoon. We stumbled upon a perfect swimming hole just before a small waterfall off of Eight Dollar Road between Selma and Cave Junction. This Illinois River location was perfect. Park in a small camping area and follow your nose on... More

This is a beautiful and underused site tucked away, but very convenient to the main highway through the Illinois Valley (Cave Junction). There are picnic and restroom facilities, but alas the State Park system is about to give up maintenance.

This is one of the most beautiful rivers in Southern Oregon. Sometimes the kids disrespect it by not cleaning up their garbage, but the state works hard to keep up. It is beautiful and the water is an incredible Emerald Green. Great swim holes. Just watch the sankes in the summer.

The Illinois River empties into the larger Rogue River at the tiny town of Agness, about one hours' drive east of Gold Beach. We drove along the Rogue River in summer and it is a pleasant drive, although there are stretches where we could not see the river. To reach the Illinois River, turn southeast on Oak Flat Road at...
