Great trip

Fun ride! Great service. Just long enough to be fun but not so long that I got bored. Took a short break had ice cream and headed back down the tracks to my car.

This wonderful quaint railroad offers a look back in time while viewing some of the beautiful Oregon coastline. Its not fast but ols steam train weren't fast but it is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

So, I'm a train fan... If there's one nearby, I'll sniff it out, find out where it goes, and take it... And, if there's a dinner train, or a wine train, I'm up for that... so here it is... Out of Garibaldi, old silver sided train cars, two engines, a "three hour tour" from Garibaldi to Wheeler, along the coast... More

We visit Garibaldi annually for a family reunion. We have talked about the train for many years and finally made time to take the Coastal Excursion trip. The train departed from Garibaldi at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. It was a 30 minute ride to Rockaway. The train is in Rockaway for 30 minutes, giving you just enough time to visit... More

Although there are covered, old-fashioned cars, to really appreciate the ride, grab a seat in the open car. The train passes between the highway and the coast from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach, just a slower way to go than driving. There is no historic commentary, only an appropriately dressed conductor who punches the tickets and an old-timey engineer. The ride... More

This was a fun ride with a well educated and friendly volunteer train crew. The scenic ride along several lakes and the bay was spectacular. We had our choice of riding in a regular passenger car, an open car or an open car with a roof. There was a half hour stop in Rockaway where you could go down and... More

We thought this ride would offer a coastal view, but it really doesn't. I think the prices are very expensive for what it is, too. Plus, they rain is so slow, one could walk faster. Not much to do in Garibaldi either.

We were disappointed with the dinner train experience. The food was mediocre at best although the service was excellent. The trip route only has a few ocean views and those were nothing special. Mostly the tracks run alongside highway 101 and trees. The dining car seemed to have no ventilation at all and was so stuffy I got a headache.... More

Traveling up the Oregon coast we decided to take a break and travel on the railroad, having just arrived in time. Parking was easy, just next to the start in Garibaldi. For $18 each there is not much on offer. The loco was not the larger type shown in the pictures but a smaller logging company type, not so impressive.... More
