Driving US101 can be a hazardous way to see the Oregon coast for the driver. We took the train and "left the driving to..." the engineer. The train runs from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach, about 5 miles, at a leisurely pace to enjoy the unique views. Cars are vintage coach. At Rockaway Beach we spent time walking the beach. Go... More

A ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad provides great views of the Pacific Northwest's natural beauty. Traveling through forests, marshes, coastal towns and along the amazing Pacific Ocean will present many opportunities for photographers. For train enthusiasts of all ages, their roster of historic steam and diesel engines and passengers cars are representative of the pioneer spirit that brought... More

I was excited to have my mother in law along for our vacation since she was willing to go on the fall splendor train ride with me. We were looking forward to it for months. We had car trouble on our way and ended up making the train with just seconds to spare! They were very understanding and made us... More

This past Saturday we enjoyed the 2 hour ride along the Nehalem River. We sat in one of the outside cars. The scenery was beautiful and the other passengers were fun to chat with. This was the Fall Splendor ride. A very enjoyable way to spend a warm Fall afternoon on the coast! :).

We went with a group on the Fall Splendor Tour. Trees had not yet started to change colors. Traveled along the Nehalem River. Scenery was great.

Decided to take a scenic steam powered railroad trip yesterday. The ride along the bay from Garibaldi to Rockaway on a clear September day was quite delightful. We rode on the open car, but others chose a restored 1932 passenger car, and others chose a covered open car. I think we had the best choice because the views were unobstructed... More

Well, it's hard to review something you take for granted w/out some chagrin. We have a cottage on the Oregon Coast and while I prefer to spend my time fishing that's not always in the cards. Many times a year I'm at the coast with my two kids when my wife is working weekends. This is how it started and... More

We are flatlanders, and don't get the chance to ride a train. This was a treat for us to be able to see the coast of Oregon from a steam train. There are picture opportunities abound from the train, and after arriving in Seaside. The train is operated by ALL VOLUNTEERS, and you can tell they enjoy doing it. Persons... More

My wife and I are train nerds, so this is just too cool for school, a real working steam engine, and in Rockaway they have fresh made popcorn with that cheesy stuff on it. Life doesn't get any better. And another great thing about Rockaway is their parking lot has power outlets so if our electric car had the range,... More

There are dinner train rides and special events. We took the basic ride between two coastal towns; 1/2 hour one way from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach (or visa versa), 1/2 hour rest at the town, 1/2 hour ride back. The waterway, ocean, inlet views are beautiful and peaceful. You pass by a town in which many of the cottage-like homes... More
