It was a really clear day and you could see for miles at the top of the butte. There is a marker that indicates the different mountains. It was so clear you could see Mt. Hood almost 100 miles away from Bend. There were several people walking up and down the paved road, which is a great workout. Just make... More

I didn't even know you can see 10 volcanoes at once. Amazing views. A must place to visit on a trip to Bend.

Our group of friend (6) stopped here after the morning visit to Lava Butte. Unlike the Lava Butte, the Pilot Butte is FREE. It is just a short drive outside of downtown Bend, OR. On a clear day like the 4th of July weekend, the view is 360 degrees of amazing sights. There are marked plaques to identify all the... More

Awesome views from up here and the sunsets are wonderful. Get there early for a place to park, or better yet, walk up. The sun is amazing as it sets behind the majestic mountains..

We were there during a pair of wildfires just outside of Bend. We, and about 500 other people, went up there to view the smoke and flames. The views are pretty good. You can see 360 degrees of Bend and the surrounding area. It's a quick and inexpensive trip for the view in Bend.

The locals like to go to the top for a view of the sunset. The road is paved and pretty well maintained but gradually got narrower close to the top. There are bathroom facilities on top as well as nice display signs telling you what you are looking at as well as some seating. The evening I went up was... More

This cinder cone is right in Bend and a hike to the top is well worth the trouble (you can also drive). It appeared may locals like to use the trails for exercise. The scenery from the top is spectacular with views of Bend, the Cascades, Newberry Crater and the snow capped volcanoes. We could see all the way to... More

On a clear day, which is very common, you can get fantastic views of the cascades from Bachelor to Hood. The sunsets from the top are some of the best I've ever seen. You can walk to the top and back (via one of two routes, road or gravel trail) in an hour, making it a good choice for families... More

This is a great spot if you're short on time but want to squeeze in a quick hike. Each of the trails to the top are about a mile, I'd recommend the slightly shorter and steeper nature path as opposed to the path that follows the road. There were fewer people on this path and it makes for better scenery.... More

The road from Bend to Pilot Butte is winding and shared by runners and bikers so pay close attention. The viewpoint at the top affords a 360 degree panorama well worth the trip. Plenty of parking with few cars on the Fall Sunday we visited.
