We visited on a cold and windy day, but the views and area were still worth the drive up. I would choose a clear blue sky day if you have a choice, for the best mountain views. The trail up looked great, we saw many runners and hikers despite the cold wind.

Pilot Butte is right in the city of Bend. The parking lot for the trailhead is just past the turn into the summit itself. We accidentally turned into the summit and drove up. The hike on the dirt trail is very nice. There are periodic benches to sit on. The city views are gorgeous. We also hiked adjacent to the... More

I made the climb for the first time this past spring. Based on my companion's recommendation, we climbed up the dirt/gravel trail and then descended via the road. The trail can be very dusty and is very narrow in many places. It is also steep, but provides excellent exercise. The views from the top are great and you see in... More

I love this butte in Bend. It's not high enough to be called a mountain and way too big to be a hill, so I guess butte pretty well describes it. I took my visiting brother and his wife here to watch the sunset one night and they said it was one of their favorite things they did in Bend.... More

Great 360 degree views of Bend and the surrounding Cascade Mountain Range. Easy to get to. You can drive or hike to the top.

I remember necking up on the butte and other mischief. its is a wonderfull view point. Donated to the parks and recs in Central Oregon over 40 years ago it is to be a motor vehicle out look. it says so in the deed. A breathtaking view of the cascade mountain range waits you at the top!.I suggest going before... More

It's always fun to make the short drive up Pilot Butte, especially at sunrise or sunset. With a 360-degree view, you can't go wrong. Just watch out for all the people who walk up or down; they're rarely on the footpath.

We had our GPS giving us directions , so this was easily accessed. You have to drive a winding road to the top. Beware of the many hikers who are walking along this road also. The view is fantastic. You can see the Cascade Range in many directions. It was a beautiful sunny day. Restrooms and water fountains are available. It... More
