The place is very modern. Tons of hands on experience. Free. Kids friendly. Actual big boat is open for viewing.

We stopped in to see the museum, but it isn't open yet. Still enjoyed seeing the big ship from the shore. I think it will be interesting to see when it opens. We're only a couple of hours away, so we may come back when it opens.

we followed the directions to the Maritime Museum. to our surprise there was no ship. after reading another TripAdvisor post we realized it had been relocated. did not have time to go to the new location. make sure you go to the new location not the downtown Toledo area.

Wonderful trip to the past. Esp since the ship is much older than I am, but I recognize so much about it.

This is very inexpensive, you can go down in the hold, see the captain's quarters, the crew quarters, the galley and wander the huge deck. A Toledo treasure.

The Boyer is a great example of the lake freighters that inhabited the great lakes before the time of the self unloading super ore carries. The best thing about this ship is that they have moved it to a more downtown location and are joining it to a maritime museum.

If you have wondered what it would be like to be on a Great Lakes and beyond cargo ship, this is a good place to go.

Great place to take the little ones. You can tour the ship and hear about life on a vessel like this one. A great history lesson. My only issue is the limited need to revisit once you have toured.

The Boyer was recently renamed the Col. James M. Schoonmaker and will be reloced a short distance downstream to the Great Lakes Maritime Museum.
