Firelands Winery was founded in 1880 under the name Mantey Vineyards and has been producing high quality wines ever since. Join us at the winery in Sandusky Ohio and see what we are all about. There is a self guided tour that allows you to see the different aspects of production from an interesting perspective, a tasting bar where you can try a selection of our world class wines, and several intimate seating areas where you can share a bottle of wine with friends and family. All in all Firelands Winery is a great place to spend an afternoon.

Firelands pours a generous paid tasting - dry or sweet, your choice of flight. The wines were good, and there were many specials in the shop. A self guided tour is available.

My wife and I fancy ourselves fans of wine; and, have belonged to wine clubs; ate great wine and food pairings at world-class restaurants, so we weren't very hopeful trying "Ohio Wines" until we actually learned the winery has been in operation for more almost 125 years! We tried the "Dry" and the "Sweet" tastings; and, shared samples. The lady... More

We stopped here on the way home from Put in Bay. It was early 10:00 am, but they were open so we stopped in for a tasting. Their wines are great, and the young lady working was so sweet and knowledgeable. Would definitely stop in for a tasting if you are in the area.

It cost us $3.00 to taste 6 wines. The employees there are very friendly, and give you a really good time. You have the choice to try sweet or dry wines. The wine they carry is very good. We ended up buying 3 bottles of wine for $6.99 each. Everything there is very reasonable in price. We enjoyed it very... More

Went for a quick tasting, as I'm the only person who enjoys wine in my family. Nice little sitting room off to the side, and some tasty juice offered to my family - thank you. Normally not a big sweet wine enthusiast, but the creamy Catawba and blue face is quite tasty. Bought a bottle of their newest addition, a... More

We were on our way home from a family day out and saw the sign for Firelands Winery on the freeway and decided to stop. What a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the wines that we tasted and bought some to take home. My one critique is that they choose the wines in the flight. We prefer really dry wines... More

I drink wine about once every 5 years, so I am no connoisseur of wine. With that said, I really liked the setup here and the staff was very nice. We took the free tour and it was a letdown, because they were not bottling that day and Lucy wasn't stomping any grapes. But they did offer 6 small glasses... More

Firelands winery was recommended to us as ( if you only go to 1 winery go here) so we did and our tasting host was very knowledgeable. They also have a self directed tour which was OK , would have been better if they were bottling when we walked through. Loved their wines, nice selection of days and sweets.

Before Prohibition, Ohio was one of the leading wine-producing states in the U.S., and the Lake Erie region was one of the major vineyard areas. After Prohibition, the state slapped large taxes on wineries and breweries, which put them at a major disadvantage versus other states. Production is coming back, and Firelands is one of the largest in the state.... More
