Four of us went to Magee Marsh the second week of May and experienced some of the best birding in the US - definitely east of the Mississippi! There were warblers EVERYWHERE and the management of the wildlife area was top notch. It was like taking a crash course in warbler identification - males, females, juveniles at all stages of... More

we just spent 4 days at the magee marsh area, including the magee marsh boardwalk, as well as several surrounding wildlife habitats, ottawa nwr and metzger marsh. we were there specifically to bird watch during spring migration, and it was awesome, wonderful habitat, very nice, new, clean visitors centers with lovely facilities, informative visitors information, mosquitos were becoming more challenging... Many bird watchers go here especially during migratory times. It is one of the fantastic nature preserves in the area. More

Do not go to Magee Marsh out of birding season (roughly the first two weeks of May -- at least not without a mosquito suit); you will get eaten. Do go for unarguably some of the best spring birding. More

The Magee Marsh was very nice to visit. When we got there, we saw 2 eagles flying over us. We realized that they had just left their nest over by the lookout area. They never came back while we were there but we enjoyed a few of the trails in the area, however, they are short. The US Fish &... More

This is an Ohio State owned Wildlife Area located adjacent to the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. They are both wonderful spots for people who love birds, birding, marshes, wetlands and beautiful trails and boardwalks for walking or hiking. They both have modern, attractive welcome centers with lots of information and clean bathrooms. Please note.....the beach in this area can no... More

The board walk area is great for seeing migrating warblers in May. Most birders know this so the parking lot is full. It is our favorite place to visit in the spring. In fact, we spend a long weekend there every May. More

Once a great place to swim and picnic, this public area has been "returned to nature" the beach is no longer cleaned and is littered with driftwood logs and dead animals along with old pallets complete with rusty nails poking out. I visited on a great warm sunny June Saturday and found the place vacant, unmowed and unkept. In short... More
