We took our car on the spirit and got quite a good deal with an exclusivbe double cabin - definitiely recommend doing this as the cabins are roomy enough and clean and the beds comfy plus I wouldn't want to share with anyone or sleep on those recliners that looks like a nightmare. It's pretty well organised if you know... More

This was the first time I had traveled on the Spirit of Tasmania. When I first read about it in the brochure I was curious to see what kind of entertainment and food options there were. I was very disappointed with the Chefs Table, it was like B-grade cafeteria food. For $18 you could get a 'small' plate which was... More

Two days ago we sailed across from Melbourne to Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania with our large fifth wheeler!! It was a very enjoyable experience; all the staff (check in security guys, customer service etc) were excellent. We decided to go to the Leatherwood Restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed the food - we had a two course for $56.00... More

If you have no reason to take your car then the boat trip to Tasmania is a life experience you don't need. The boat is fine and staff friendly but 10 hours across Bass strait with its reputation for being rough means no sleep is the norm. If you are taking a vehicle be prepared for waiting to get the... Whilst the amenities, staff and service on the Spirit of Tassie are very good, the signposting from the Westgate freeway (from the Western Hwy) is appalling. We spent 3/4 of an hour driving around in the dark looking for the Pier and missed the ferry as a result. As a consequence, picking up the ferry 24 hours later cost me... More

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately we don’t control either the location or the volume of signage erected directing passengers to our Melbourne terminal. This is the responsibility of the governing council, we do however lobby hard to have as much signage as possible to advertise and direct our passengers to the relevant port. You will note signage in... More

Took the 7:30pm ferry from Melbourne to Devonport, arrive early as there is a bit of waiting checking in and moving the car on the ship. Shared a 4 bunk room with 2 strangers who became friends. Would recommend bringing own dinner as dinner on the ship is quite pricey. Showers were good and clean, beds were comfortable enough. Ship... More

Sailed from Melbourne to Devonport last Friday night, and not looking forward to the trip home on the Spirit of Tasmania in a few days. The food is overpriced. The Captains Table's food looks worse than any prison, and for $31 it's a rip off. My family and I ate at the other restaurant which had okay food- all together... More

First time traveller on car ferry. The ease of getting the car on and off was a surprise. On board was also clean, neat and friendly crew. Cabin facilities clean and neat. Great crossing both ways.

i was born and bought up in the Adelaide Hills (South Australia) so we have used the ferry quite a number of times. We all ways get a cabin and we have a 10 year old. From using the ferry a number of times the best advice I can offer to everyone reading this is. firstly A middle cabin is... More

I took my motorbike to Tassie so this was the only choice - my wife flew! I shared a cabin which was very comfortable and I was impressed by the friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately the food in the canteen & restaurant (on the return journey) was a disgrace. A very poor representation of what can be expected from Tasmania!... More
