We toured Tasmania for 10 days and chose to take our own car. Getting across Bass Straight is never easy, and the Spirit of Tasmania suffers the vagaries of this bit of unpredictable water. So expected a bit of bounce and sleep disturbing vibration. But the worst part is either the long queues to get cars on (we were queued... More

We had decided on a road trip around Tasmania which lead us to the decision to cross Bass Strait aboard the Spirit of Tasmania. We found both crossings to be a good experience; especially on the return trip with a beautiful clear night to enjoy the night sky. The staff were very helpful and the food from the bistro was... We did a day trip from Devonport to Melbourne and we had a marvellous day. We didn't book a cabin, preferring to spend our time on deck watching the ocean. The chairs on the top deck were very comfortable and the view was superb. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - serving, exchanging incorrectly bought goods, fixing drink... More

Had a wonderful voyage. Little tiny rocking all the way over Bass Strait. Captains lounge buffet dinner bit overpriced but nice food. Kids (10 & 5) LOVED the fried fish. Cabin was small but THE BEST shower made up for that. Nice to stroll around the deck and look around at will. Kids play area was small but not really... More

We travelled as an extended family in two cars and this was a really economical way to get to Tassie. The day sailings were really good but I do agree having a cabin is worthwhile especially with young children. Also although the buffet on the day sailing is nice it's probably worthwhile taking snacks for young children.

We took the overnight there and back. Great clean cabins (single beds) and ideal for an overnight trip. Enjoy the motion of the ocean while you sleep, an early wake up and you are there. Overnight trip made very easy and comfortable. Very hard working crew when you realise the work and precision needed to unload and load up for... More

Taking our own car to Tasmania is easy. We booked two ocean recliners which are in the back of the ship looking out. They are a bit like plane seats but have more recline and a footrest. it is good to have a snooze, which makes the journey go faster. There are plenty of other places to sit and eat... More
