Having visited most of the other castle located around Berwick in the past I thought I knew what to expect but Chillingham was totally different its so full of history and quirky collectibles that its impossible to take it all in on one trip the grounds are also stunning and the wild cattle is about a STEEP 20 minute walk... This is a wonderful quirky restored castle. Ok it's does not have the size and history of Bamburgh or Lindisfarne but if every castle was the same it would be pretty boring right? A friendly greeting at reception, many interesting artefacts, good knowledge from the various guides (you really DON'T need a tour) and creepy chilling dungeons that show how... More

I was a little apprehensive about visiting but the wild cattle made it for me. For a small fee this is well worth it. Probably best phone up to find when the guided tour times are.

Last time I saw this castle it was in ruins. The current owner has done a fantastic job recovering the building and filling it with all sorts of personal memorabilia. Surprises lurk around every corner, some more chilling than others, in this labrynth of rooms. Whilst some of the artefacts are modern reproductions they add effectively to the realistic look... We recently visited Chillingham Castle which dates back to the 12th century. The tea room is in the former minstrels gallery and has a welcoming log fire needed on the day of our visit as it was raining and rather chilly. When you walk inside the castle rooms its all presented in original furnishings. Although restoration of roofs and ceilings... More

A medieval castle with an interesting long history. It is important to buy the Rooms & Grounds Guide as it provides comprehensive information & our visit would not have been so enjoyable without it. Would also advise to visit the village church & the Wild Cattle before the Castle. A full day visit.

Visited the castle as a groupon deal and well worth a visit. It is just as was in the mediaeval times and quite an eye opener. Found it quite an experience.

We spent the day at Chillingham Castle in early May. It definitely lived up to its reputation of being haunted. My husband and I both agreed we had a strange feeling throughout the visit and my son (1 at the time) made some very strange noises and acted peculiar in one of the rooms! We later found out that the... More

This Castle certainly lives up to its reputation and is a must see for those that have an interest in history and ghostly activities. We stayed overnight in the Castle in the Grey Room and loved the opportunity to be there. The Ghost tour is also a must , but not for the fainthearted. It lasts 2 hours and is by torchlight.The... There really isn't that much to see, it seems to have been opened to fund it's repair. The owner has deposited a collection of odds and ends there and attached notes. The notes make interesting reading. Not sure if its comic genius or just a different reality. A framed obituary of a dead relative and a framed final edition of... More
