A very"quirky" castle, full of the weirdest of artifacts Well worth a visit. The gardens are extensive and dogs can be walked in the gounds outside. Beware of the cafe---we had cheese scones which may well have been baked when the castle was built!!! Stale did not begin to describe their antiquity The coffees were also only luke warm and the... This is my 3rd year going to Chillingham Castle for the weekend. It's a fascinating place, beautiful grounds & so much history. The rooms, well u are in a castle that is extremely old, & therefore furniture is old & the whole castle is dated, but that's what a castle of this age & history is all about. The bedding,... More

We visited the castle on Hallowe'en. Our first stop was the herd of wild cattle at the castle. We spent half an hour with a guide explaining the origins if the herd, and how they came to be as they are today. A fascinating talk and well worth taking the time out to visit this add on attraction at the... More

Looks promising from the outside. Once inside it's disappointing; grim and dirty. The rooms are so full of junk it's hard to work out what's worth looking at and the artefacts lack cohesion. There's no sense of history, which the place obviously has. Although the guides are friendly and knowledgeable, the written guides are terrible quality. The furniture looks dirty,... More

Chillingham Castle is a fascinating and interesting place to spend a couple of hours exploring if you like old castles. With very few barriers you can get close up to the remarkable collection of artifacts and objects on display. There is also a pleasant tea room and small gift shop with a nice variety of gifts and souvenirs. A pleasant... More

Luckily we had read a guide before we visited so were expecting oddities. I think the oddest was seeing the bedroom on show which was obviously in use, with a book and glass of water by the bed .... or was this for the ghost?? Great room guides, very helpful, especially in the great hall. Shame you can't take dogs... More

I'd live here! It's just mad Big old empty house filled with junk and clutter from all over the place. If you're after a National Trust place or the well turned out Alnwick or Banburgh then this is not for you. This is a bit more the crazier end of a Game of Thrones set or an undiscovered castle lived... More

Forget Alnwick Castle, forget Edinburgh Castle, forget Bamburgh Castle; Chillingham is the real McCoy. Stunning! Repeat visits are justified by the shear complexity of the place, the massive quantity of artifacts and exhibits, the depth and complexity of its history. The gardens, especially the large walled garden, are a delight and a visit to Chillingham's famous wild white cattle, a... More

great day at the castle lots to see but all jumbled up and in no particular order, recommend you go and see the wild cattle too but be prepared for a walk across the fields to get to them
