Love love love this place. An absolute must if you are in the area. Great for Kids and adults a like. An aladdins cave of artefacts and history. Lovingly restored by the people who own it and run by staff who obviously love their jobs and the place they are looking after. Make sure you ask the questions as they... More

We absolutely loved our visit to Chillingham Castle, it was unique, fun, interesting and full of history and atmosphere. Yes it was old and decrepit in places and the dungeons were gruesome and you had to watch your step and but hey ho I don't think they had hoovers, dunelm mill stores and Human rights act in the medieval times!!!... We visited the castle on a very wet and miserable day which made the place gloomier. We loved it! It is no stately home but that is why I liked it. It is a quirky, old, dusty place with huge amount of objects on display for you to look at or touch. The torture chamber is not for the easily... More

Me and my partner visited this place and were very impressed. A little walk through the woods takes you up to this stunning place. Creepy dungeon with marks where the prisoners scratched there marks into the wall. Horrid torture room very dark and scary. Lovely old rooms to look around with plenty of information on the castle. Letters and photos... More

Definitely a marmite type place to visit. If you like beautifully laid out rooms, tidily labelled and catalogued, everything pristine then this isn't for you. If you like antique shops and rummaging around then this is for you. You can pick up all manner of artifacts and the owners love of the place really is apparent.

The website for Chillingham Castle warns that it is in part not easy for elderly or disabled people to access. In fact there seems to be some pride in making it so. For example, there is no reason why the rope rail to the tearoom couldn't be replaced with a metal one. No is there a need for so many... More

Absolutely well worth a visit, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The place has true character and soul, yes it may have the odd slip and trip hazard but that just adds to the fun. The guides deserve a special mention, they are very friendly, knowledgeable and very very enthusiastic, they do the place a great credit and deserve a bit pat... More

This is a very authentic castle that has no frills. There are no fancy audio-visual interactive gismos and the fact that many of the interpretations are hand written is charming. There is a mix of old and 'new' with a amazing display of torture methods, bare stone and a lack of grandure but informative guides in some rooms. The spiral... More

Eccentric and quirky collection of objects brimming with history and litterally filled to bursting. Somewhat overwhelming but enjoyable and very different to the usual 'visit a castle' experience. Be prepared for curious little notes in a none too welcoming tone and be ready to see everything displayed everywhere. Great dungeon, the best I've ever seen and very, very creepy!

I visited this castle witha friend last month and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The parking was a little way from the castle itself but the trees shaded the cars from the warm sunshine. The walk around the rooms was very interesting indeed especially when the wardens in the rooms gave out some facts and figures. They were very informative and... More
