I took the bus from Alnwick to Chillingham Castle. I arrived almost two hours before they opened, my fault. It was raining with lightning and thunder and I was cold and wet. I stayed in the main gateway out of the rain fir a lot if the time and when the staff for the tea room arrived, they built a... More

What an incredible place - if you like quirky, interesting and spooky places pay it a visit - very atmospheric really easy to scare your self - we had a spooky encounter with a drum that "banged" itself in Edward 1st room and so what if it turned out to be a banging window!! We enjoyed scarying ourselves. Excellent cafe... More

A pleasant drive to an "out of the way" castle. But it's all downhill from there. What a rip off - the most disorganised shambles of a place - each room is a dumping ground for a load of junk. The owners should be ashamed at the price they are expecting people to pay for admission to this place. It's... More

We visited this castle using a groupon luckily, because if we had visited having paid full price I would have been even more let down! Using the groupon meant it was £4.50 each rather than £9 each. The actual castle and gardens are beautiful, it is a stunning piece of architecture and the gardens are very impressive! So when first... More

There is so much to see in this castle. Full of stuff and it's nice to go somewhere that you're not contained behind ropes and glass! In fact, you're practically encouraged to touch and rifle through the variety of random oddities and things on display. Needless to say, it kept us all entertained for a number of hours. The dungeons... More

Having visited several castles in Northumberland this is perhaps one of my favourite's. Its Quirky inside with lots of memorabilia scattered around the rooms with no order to it, and yes you can actually touch everything. Beware when you enter the Dungeons there is very little light, be careful where you sit as this is also a torture chamber with... More

If you are looking for a castle to visit in Northumberland and there are many to chose from this one is one of my favourites! It has a lot going for it set the heart of England's northern most county. Both the castle and the nearby village of Chatham have a lot to offer. The gardens are lovely and peaceful... More

We took the family to Chillingham Castle the other week and had a great time. It makes such a change not to have all artefacts under glass - the guides even let the kids pick up some of the swords, shields, and guns to get an idea how strong you would have to be to carry all this stuff. Not... More

A proper castle, free to wonder and touch things, was pretty random, but so interesting, beautiful gardens.
