This hidden away Northumberland Castle is a real mixture of collections in a wonderful setting. It was at its best in glorious sunshine. First part of the day was spent looking at the Wild Cattle on the estate then drive down to castle and a good meander round before setting of for Wooler.

we visited here on a lovely sunny day, free car parking approx 15 min walk from entrance. £9 each to get in which is slightly overpriced, if you want to see the cattle it's more expensive. The castle is a real mish mash of history, no real order but that adds to its charm! Guides are in most of the... More

Chiilingham Castle is quite hard to find, but once found ,offers a romp through an eclectic collection of props and antiques set off by the restored surroundings of an extensive 15th century stone tower. It offers 'ghost tours' at night; a look round the castle and grounds from 12-5 in the afternoon, and an adjacent tour to see the wild... More

Not what you think its going to be, not at all formal very relaxed allowed to wander around at will, don't feel like you being herded around. It basically a private antique and curio exhibition of the new owners and the castle its self looks and feels very old even a bit spooky. Very enjoyable half day out.

We visited here to on a sunny day and it took a bit too find with signs petering out. For £9 each I felt that it was a little overpriced. Whilst I feel that a dark atmosphere is attempted the general feeling is one of neglect and in need of a good tidy up. Notices were damp and damaged. The... More

I bought this on groupon for reasonable price but would not have paid full price to visit, however we ended up paying £20 for petrol there and back as it is quite a way from where we live. I had viewed online the ghost statements and dungeon history before visiting. And the place definitely has an eerie-ness to it, I... More

Thankfully we went on a half price groupon offer. It doesn't open til midday and we went to the tea room which was full of people smoking. The sandwiches were cheap rolls with plastic cheese and were a rip off. As we had our eleven month baby we moved to a lovely area with a bench and marble table in... More

We decided to go to Chillingham for a friends 40th birthday with 20 of us attending the ghost tour and most of us staying overnight. We arrived at about 5pm and had a look around our rooms which were lovely, very old and authentic but extremely well kept and beautifully decorated. We then decided to explore the castle grounds and... More

I took the bus from Alnwick to Chillingham Castle. I arrived almost two hours before they opened, my fault. It was raining with lightning and thunder and I was cold and wet. I stayed in the main gateway out of the rain fir a lot if the time and when the staff for the tea room arrived, they built a... More

What an incredible place - if you like quirky, interesting and spooky places pay it a visit - very atmospheric really easy to scare your self - we had a spooky encounter with a drum that "banged" itself in Edward 1st room and so what if it turned out to be a banging window!! We enjoyed scarying ourselves. Excellent cafe... More
