The Tanners Arms ale house features six handpulls which carry all-local real ales, judiciously chosen, fastidiously kept and a pleasure to sup; a good selection of whiskies to warm and revive every palate; regular live music sessions of all varieties; the most eclectic jukebox in Northumberland; and most important of all, a friendly, laid-back environment full of good crack and camaraderie. A good old-fashioned English pub, and a pleasant spot to while away an evening…

Popped in for an hour when passing. Busy place with live music. Good beer - a few guest beers and a great gantry - single malts - well priced. Really engaging bar staff and customers. Best pub I've found in ages. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a fantastic pub, great beer and so welcoming. A very unusual bar in it's decor but I liked it. When we come back to Alnwick this is where we will head. I had 5 different ales there and everyone was superb.

Found this pub by accident. Quirky Inside, nice ambiance and good beers. We tried a couple of the local beers, which were good. It seems to be a locals place but the batman was friendly to us as tourists. Good music played too, and not too loud.

Actors filming Downton Abbey drink here when filming at nearby Alnwick Castle - made the evening extra special!

We visited the Tanners whilst holidaying in Northumberland. We had a cottage in Alnwick for the week (Mid July) and by pure look our cottage was on Hotspur place, just down the road from the Tanners. I'm not sure which pub the previous reviewer visited but it certainly couldn't have been this one as it was without a doubt the... More

There are three main attractions in Alnwick. The Castle, The Garden and The Tanners Arms, perhaps this pub should be at the front of the list. In an age of dreadful identikit chain pubs and bars, it's refreshing to find an independently run pub that sets its stall on crackingly well kept beer and creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
