The Tanners Arms ale house features six handpulls which carry all-local real ales, judiciously chosen, fastidiously kept and a pleasure to sup; a good selection of whiskies to warm and revive every palate; regular live music sessions of all varieties; the most eclectic jukebox in Northumberland; and most important of all, a friendly, laid-back environment full of good crack and camaraderie. A good old-fashioned English pub, and a pleasant spot to while away an evening…

Nice quiet Pub

Many of the pubs in Alnwick focus on providing meals and food. The tanners Arms is just a nice quirky traditional Pub. Welcoming, nice beer etc and with a great jukebox.

Walked by this pub Thursday afternoon and saw the signs for an open mike night. Went in and it was packed. A few people sung and they were very good. One lady sang and played guitar and she was very good especially her rendition of 'Lilac Wine'. Loved it. Then a band called Dagmar Mason came on and they were... More

We always pop into the Tanners when visiting family, cannot disagree with any of the comments I've read and the clincher is the "dog friendly" reference. You think it is someones house front door but don't worry, just walk in and enjoy. It's off the main road so be sure to research the location or you could miss out.

Visited Alnwick for three days and went to this pub every day. It has great beer, a nice friendly atmosphere and a juke box which is excellent without being intrusive. Wish I could put the pub on wheels and take it back home with me!

There are some great pubs in Alnwick but this is definitely the best in the area, a superb and changing collection of real ales, some classic whiskies and a kickin' juke. Add to that friendly staff and you've got the perfect and dog friendly boozer. Staff made us feel very welcome all through the holiday, can't recommend this place enough... More

Worth finding if you like your real ale - 4 locally sourced beers kept exceptionally at reasonable prices - not a gastro - just an ordinary pub with bar snacks and slate floor!

Good atmosphere and good selection of well kept local beers. Just the one bar and a little bit quirky - well worth a visit.

This is a gem of a pub, a single room bar with seating around the walls and a log burner in the ingle nook fireplace. It serves real ales, real ciders, lagers a selection of bottled beers, malt whiskies and wine, it is the best place to drink in Alnwick. The locals (as is the case in all of Northumberland)... More
