This was a family trip on the Santa train just before Christmas. Booking in advance we were given plenty of room for the 4 children and extended family. Adults were offered mulled wine and mince pies and children biscuits and juice. The staff were very friendly but it was all slightly chaotic. Children were given age appropriate gifts but some... We were caravanning just outside Beadale, North Yorkshire, so we decided to try the local railway run by a group of local volunteers. Our journey took us to from Beadale to Redmire (£12.50 return). As soon as we set off the staff came around cracking jokes, asking where we were heading for and offering useful advice. Such pleasant and jolly... More

A friendly railway that goes through some beautiful scenery. The staff could not have worked harder to make our day enjoyable. Thoroughly recommend if you are in the area.

Enjoyed this train journey to Redmyre from Leeming Bar, although the carriages were cool as the heating was not on and it was a dull day. The volunteers do a great job keeping this line running and are trying to extend it.

Apologies that the carriages were rather cold when you travelled - at the moment we only have one diesel locomotive that can provide electric train heating and that was under repair. I hope that didn't spoil your journey too much. The countryside of Wensleydale is truly marvellous and you are right - travelling by road doesn't give you the fantastic... More

Saturday 11 October 2014. I came specifically to ride on both the usual diesel ride at 10:00 as well as the occasional steam ride at 12 o'clock. (please check for availability as it doesn't travel very often). I treated myself to riding on the footplate for £50 one way from Leeming Bar to Redmire, which fortunately has most of the... More

We are pleased to hear that you really enjoyed your footplate experience and that you would recommend it to others. I'll pass on to Fred and James your kind comments. Regular steam running finishes at the end of October 2014 but steam will be back with us next year. Our website will keep you up to date with when steam... More

Caught the 10am Sunday, Yellow time table train to Redmire, the buffet wasn't open on the train, however we were told that before taking the train so we bought a drink from the station at Leeming Bar. We parked at Leeming with the idea of getting the train to Redmire then walking to Castle Bolton, then down to the river... More

We prebooked a group buffet on the 12:00 from Leeming to Redmire and return. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. The buffet was lovely and the service with a smile provide by lovely young lady volunteers. The scenery is great and the experience overall was just right. With several of our party being physically impaired every effort... More

We were travelling from pickering to the dales and happened to see a steam locomotive at Leeming bar so we stopped to have look. We bought our tickets to ride on the 12 midday train on Friday 5th September. We looked at the loco and I followed another customer to the side of the loco to get a better picture.... More

Thank you for your review of your visit to our railway. On the day, I did apologise for the experience that you had had (but you didn't mention at the time that you had been shouted at which is clearly unacceptable unless you were in a dangerous position) but you've forgotten to include that in your review. At the time... More

We have driven through Bedale a number of times en-route to the Yorkshire Dales and have never seen any reason to stop. On this occasion we were visiting the station at Leyburn shortly before the next train was due and as it was a steam locomotive we decided to take a trip to Bedale, more for the ride than the... Thank you for your comments about your journey. The view along the line is something not entirely within our control as a lot of the trees and vegetation are not on our land so we cannot prune them to improve the views. Our dedicated vegetation team do their best to keep line as clear as they can. However, you missed... More

A trip on this heritage railway through the countryside of the Yorkshire Dales is a relaxing and enjoyable experience whatever the weather. Lots of interesting memorabilia for sale and a must for any visitor to the Dales. Mostly the engines are diesel but sometimes a steam train pulls the carriages which is fine sight.

Thank you for your kind comments and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your journey. We are a heritage railway that does rely on diesel trains for most of the time with steam operation on selected trains during the busier times of the year. We hope that you will come back to visit us in the future. More
