Our first impressions of the railway were not good (hence the 4*). From the car park it was a rough surface to Leeming Bar station. The toilets were basic. The shop/booking office/drinks area was in a basic coach and very squashed. There were no "purple" timetables available so it was pot luck when we would arrive at the other stations.... More

Leeming Bar station is a bit scruffy and does not bode well but this is an excellent journey although to be fair the weather was perfect. You travel through pretty countryside at a reasonable pace. The diesel railcar was adequate and for 2015 steam may not appear but it did not detract from the trip. We stopped at Leyburn for... More

The railway which is supported by volunteers goes through some stunning countryside and the volunteers who work at the stations and on the train are helpful, well informed and very happy to share their knowledge of the line, surrounding countryside and history. We travelled from Leyburn to Redmire in one direction, back to Leeming Bar in the other direction and... More

Travelling by train, I found it rather useful that I could now travel from the WR's new Northallerton West station as opposed to catching the bus to Leeming Bar as I have done previously. The lack of facilities at Northallerton West is the one reason I have not given the WR full marks. The train itself was a three-car DMU... More

Nice small railway with ambitions to expand so that the line runs from Northallerton up through the Dales to join the Settle/Carlisle line. Have been on the trains from Leeming Bar to Leyburn/Redmire on several occasions would recommend the trip

The day we went half of the line was closed due to engineering work (from Leeming Bar to Northallerton West) which didn't bother us and next time we come up to Yorkshire hopefully we can ride the full line.

After an enjoyable wander round castle Bolton, the cold wind and rain squalls forced us to cancel our planned walk (wimps that we are). So we took the train from Redmire to Bedale and back. Run by enthusiastic volunteers a true delight and a credit to their hard work and vision. The train, proudly displaying a 'Barkingside' destination sign, arrived... More

We drove from Constable Burton to Leyburn station. We got the first train at 10.35. We went to Redmire and stayed on the train as it went back down the line to Northallerton. It was a lovely journey. Beautiful scenery, lambs in the fields, loads of rabbits and pheasants. It is a 20 minute walk each way to Northallerton town... More

We only travelled the short distance from Redmire to Leyburn on this occasion but have been greater distances in the past. Once again the journey was very enjoyable. if you sit near the front of the train you can see all the animals especially rabbits jumping out of the way of the train. Countryside is stunning and the staff are... More

We have travelled the Leeming Bar to Redmire section of the line before and this trip was to ride on the newly opened section from Leeming Bar to a new station at Northallerton West via Scruton. Sadly the shop was shut but the refreshment carriage was open business and we had a bite to eat and made a donation to... More
