After an enjoyable wander round castle Bolton, the cold wind and rain squalls forced us to cancel our planned walk (wimps that we are). So we took the train from Redmire to Bedale and back. Run by enthusiastic volunteers a true delight and a credit to their hard work and vision. The train, proudly displaying a 'Barkingside' destination sign, arrived... More

We drove from Constable Burton to Leyburn station. We got the first train at 10.35. We went to Redmire and stayed on the train as it went back down the line to Northallerton. It was a lovely journey. Beautiful scenery, lambs in the fields, loads of rabbits and pheasants. It is a 20 minute walk each way to Northallerton town... More

We only travelled the short distance from Redmire to Leyburn on this occasion but have been greater distances in the past. Once again the journey was very enjoyable. if you sit near the front of the train you can see all the animals especially rabbits jumping out of the way of the train. Countryside is stunning and the staff are... More

We have travelled the Leeming Bar to Redmire section of the line before and this trip was to ride on the newly opened section from Leeming Bar to a new station at Northallerton West via Scruton. Sadly the shop was shut but the refreshment carriage was open business and we had a bite to eat and made a donation to... More

Travelled from Redmire to Leeming Bar and back - Redmire was an unmanned station, so a 12 minute delay with no information did leave me wondering if there was a problem and the trains weren't running! It might be an idea for a volunteer to at least be there to provide information. The actual journey was very pleasant and the... More

My 3 year old & I went on the 'Teddy Bears Picnic', a half term event, from Leeming Bar to Redmire & back with packed lunch & colouring & huge teddies & decorations. We very nearly missed the train & missed out on our trip if it wasn't for one of the staff going 'above & beyond' for which we... More

This was a family trip on the Santa train just before Christmas. Booking in advance we were given plenty of room for the 4 children and extended family. Adults were offered mulled wine and mince pies and children biscuits and juice. The staff were very friendly but it was all slightly chaotic. Children were given age appropriate gifts but some... We were caravanning just outside Beadale, North Yorkshire, so we decided to try the local railway run by a group of local volunteers. Our journey took us to from Beadale to Redmire (£12.50 return). As soon as we set off the staff came around cracking jokes, asking where we were heading for and offering useful advice. Such pleasant and jolly... More

A friendly railway that goes through some beautiful scenery. The staff could not have worked harder to make our day enjoyable. Thoroughly recommend if you are in the area.

Enjoyed this train journey to Redmyre from Leeming Bar, although the carriages were cool as the heating was not on and it was a dull day. The volunteers do a great job keeping this line running and are trying to extend it.

Apologies that the carriages were rather cold when you travelled - at the moment we only have one diesel locomotive that can provide electric train heating and that was under repair. I hope that didn't spoil your journey too much. The countryside of Wensleydale is truly marvellous and you are right - travelling by road doesn't give you the fantastic... More
