Loved the little town of Beaulieu, where the horses, cows and donkeys roam freely through the town. They have the right of way, and also have no road sense!! The buildings, Lord Montagues Manor, Hotel, and surrounding homes are awe inspiring.

If you've got some time to spare, you can fill it at the New Forest irrespective of how short or how long you have. There are some great walks and it's always picturesque whatever the weather.

Whilst I have travelled around the world, I am honoured to live in the New Forest. There is something for everyone, beautiful countryside, wonderful walks and only a few miles from the Hampshire coastline including Keyhaven and Hurst Castle. I cant think of a more excellent place to visit.

If only I lived closer to the New Forest I'd be there all the time! Visited on May Day bank holiday with my boyfriend and his teenage daughter and rented bikes to see the forest and ponies. It was a great way to spend the day. There are picnic spots with toilets and ice cream vans dotted about and plenty... More

We arrived in burley and visited the cycle hire shop to purchase maps which were reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and advised on parking and which route would show us an interesting variation of sights of the forest. We were amazed that horses and donkeys just wandered around freely in the woods and on the moors. Although close to... More

We stayed in the New Forest and it is truly beautiful andctranquil and relaxing, loved it. Loved the views and peace and quiet. Disliked the fact some dog walkers do not clean up.

The whole area is a delight with some interesting places to visit (eg Bucklers Hard, Beaulieu) some great food and hotels and some lovely little towns to explore. all this on top of the roaming animals and the vast expanses of open heath/forest. The major downside is the appalling traffic you are certain to experience at weekends. The roads and... More

Easy access by car, bike or walking. Ponies everywhere!! Nice views. Good parking and good for picnics. Lyndhurst is a lovely village very olde world but with a very modern Ferrari dealer!! I recomend "Berties" Fish and chip shop, excellent food at a reasonable price, good value for money.

The New Forest is a stunning retreat not that far from London. Seeing wild horses whilst looking out of your window is a real treat!
