City Beach - Where's the City? Come to think of it, where's the Sand?

With the tide in there's a strip of pebbles that you can sit on, pretty hard on the feet and not much good for sand castles. When the tide's out there's mud and lots of it. The... read more

We stood on the beach to watch the free fireworks. A little bit sandy a little bit pebbly but with a little kids playpark and shops and restaurants close by, all good

With the tide in there's a strip of pebbles that you can sit on, pretty hard on the feet and not much good for sand castles. When the tide's out there's mud and lots of it. The water fountains were fun. The area looks better in the evening with the bright lights of the businesses and arcades. The pier is... More

As beaches go this will not win any awards. It's the main beach in southend there are good amenities near. But it's a pebbly beach and when the murky waters recede your left with the mud flats of the Thames estuary there are better beaches nearby

The most central beach in Southend, close to amusements, Kursaal and the town centre. Ive always found this part of the beach to have been kept clean.

Great day out, even it was cloudy? The beach was pebbles mad! And not much sand to build sandcastles though? Beware of empty DECKCHAIRS??? As soon as you sit down, the men are there saying £3.00 for rest of day!! Unless you want to have a deckchair and pay. Very on the ball. But everyone has to make a living.... More

Muddy beach, murky water and sunny weather (on the day), nice day out. Fish and chip shops and ice creams available all around, typical English seaside town.

Went yesterday beach was so dirty and muddy, no police around broken glasses around we had a very bad experience and will never go there again. Even inside the water was unsafe almost many people cut their feet including me.

Great for walking the dog along the beach. Best time to go is between 8-9.30pm. Obviously, this has to be seasonal as dogs are only allowed on the beach between the end of September and the beginning of May. If you do take the dog with you, take some poo bags as there's nothing worse than stepping in a slimy... More

Dirty, dull, strange lights, to many drunks and hoodies, no police around, strange lay out. Tacky arcades too many pubs and fast food outlets, very few sit down places. Parking to expensive!
