Dirty, dull, strange lights, to many drunks and hoodies, no police around, strange lay out. Tacky arcades too many pubs and fast food outlets, very few sit down places. Parking to expensive!

A multicultural mix of people beach with noise from restraunts, road, theme park etc hence the name city beach. Sand not great and when the tide is out looks a bit naff but don't be put off.Explore the mud flat's for crabing when tides out, nice no frills water when tides in and loads to do off beach once you... City Beach is located in what is colloquially known as The Golden Mile. There is the iconic Kursaal at one end (with an indoor bowling alley, useful if it is raining) and the Sealife Centre, loads of gaming arcades, cafés selling bucket and spades, fish and chip shops, pubs, the Pier, Adventure Island and the casinos, and the old Victorian... We use the beach regularly between October and May. Reasonably clean, though recent storms have affected the whole coastline. Grab a cuppa at a beach front cafe even in January.

We live in Southend on Sea & this is a nice part of the seafront promenade area. There is ample deck chair hire, public toilets & kiosks selling the usual refreshments etc. and of course the water fountains for endless hours of fun for all kids of all ages to run in & out of! The beach is well kept... More

For a traditional seaside town there were more ethnic minorities there than India, Brixton and Jamaica put together. For one I am not comfortable with this. The weather was good, had an hour there and left. Disappointed.

A long clean and rather unexciting beach. Mostly small pebbles and broken shells, but there are strips of sand to play in. It's not an attractive location - there the industrial parts of Sheppey, and tanker ships going to London in the sea view, and the lacking in charm shops of Southend front as the rear view. The promenade has... More

One of the 8 beaches in Southend between Shoeburyness and Leigh-on-Sea. We have been to them all as we are from Southend. City beach is one of the main two beaches along Southend seafront and therefore one of the busiest. Three shells beach is the other main one next to Adventure Island. It is not my personal favourite but the... More

Southend-on-Sea is the ideal destination for a day trip. It has a really good shopping centre, plenty of places to eat, the train ride to end of the pier, the beach, Adventure Island, amusement arcades and a nice walk along the promenade to Thorpe Bay. The council has received vast amounts of funding to improve this area, which looks clean... More

No dogs are allowed on any beaches in Southend in summer, but you will often find someone with a bull terrier or some other big dog on the beach that the fore shore officer is too frightened to move on. It is cleaned in the mornings after the night's debris of takeaways and beer cans has been cleared away but... More
