I was really surprised that it's free to come here, not massive but plenty of things to look at and learn about, I particularly enjoyed the history of Southend through the ww1. Well worth a visit for half and hour or so

A lovely building with staff that are so very friendly. Currently there's a good World War 1 room where my 7yr old grandson learnt quite a bit. But they are being so starved of money that it seems so very old fashioned. Some days they can't stay open through lunch because there's not enough staff. There's a very interesting story... More

I've lived in the Southend area all my life so this is a place I usually always popped into. I used to go as a child and remember seeing the stuffed animals, old clothes and the old house set up, 15 years later and they still have these outdated lacklustre pieces. No new displays on view at all. Only positive... More

Looked round here after visiting the planetarium and found plenty to interest the children. Artefacts from 8000 to 80 years ago, some interactive exhibits and nice (relevant) things in the gift shop. All in a characterful old building too.

The old library made into the local museum makes this a great visit. Currently also housing a small exhibition of items from the recent discovery of an ancient kings burial chamber nearby plus rooms laid out as in Victorian times, and locally found items from distant history. Don't miss.

We visit relations near Southend a few times a year and have just found this lovely little museum. The exhibits were interesting and perfectly pitched at all ages. Our 8 and 10 year olds found plenty to keep coming and telling us about as we spent more time perusing some very informative nicely laid out displays. The staff were wonderful... More

In the old Central Library building, this museum is quaint and quite small. However the exhibits are well displayed and changed occasionally so I usually pop in in my lunch break for a quick review, and there's always something worth looking at. More important are the items that are NOT on display. I was doing some family history research and... More

Southend museum is located in the old public library and is a real hotch potch of exhibits and as a result feels very bitty and certainly does not warrent a visit on it's own but OK if you have the odd half hour to spare. Plans are afoot to build a new museum for the town but this may not... More
