Set in acres of parkland Prittlewell Priory is steeped in 900 years of history. Many of the old structures and beams are still in evidence despite Henry VIIIs attempts at destruction during the dissolution of the monasteries in the sixteenth century. Became a residence later on and the annual news booklet written and illustrated by the children gives a quirky... More

We decided to walk to Prittlewell Priory from the seafront. It took about 20 minutes - straight up the High Street and onto Victoria Avenue, and the park is at the bottom of the hill on the right. The Priory is the oldest continually inhabited building in Southend. It was the home of the Cluniac monks in the 13th century... More

I was married in the Refectory inside the Priory. A wonderful venue that met our needs - historic, beautiful and peaceful whilst satisfying family needs for a place that had religious links even if it was hundreds of years ago. The staff were wonderful and the room was perfect. The grounds have a wonderful flower garden, secret garden and a... More

The staff are actually interested in explaining to adults and children what life was like when this was being lived in. The new displays are laid out in an interesting way. There's even up to date technology to help. There's plenty for an hour of two of good learning. Even the nearby parking is free.

Priory is well worth a visit but even better every Sunday (also Saturday's) in the summer months between 3pm and 5pm there are different bands playing in the park (at the Bandstand). What a great atmosphere and music depending on the band playing of course) is superb.

Prittlewell Priory is an interesting, historic building situated in Priory Park. Parts of the priory are centuries old and one can gain an inkling of what life may have been like for the resident monks. There is also a small extension (Victorian I think) that provides information of the domestic lives of former owners who lived here once it became... More

I live in the U.S., but have kids/grandkids in Southend, so an annual trip to the U.K. is a must. My British family lives just a short distance from Priory Park and we go there several times every time I visit. It's an absolutely wonderful place...with new things to see around every bend!

the ancient priory is in the centre of priory park which is an excellent venue for families and free outdoor music concerts on saturdays and sundays through the summer months, as for the priory itself it has to be one of the best historic buildings left in southend, there has been considerable work carried out and it shows, the staff are friendly...
