Had a good walk round in bright winter sunshine. Took plenty of photographs with new camera. Excellent lunch in restaurant.

A very pleasant venue especially on a nice sunny day. Gardens are very interesting. Especially worth a visit to combine it with one of the events held throughout the year. One thing I definitely recommend is to join the RHS even if you do not intend going to any of the other RHS gardens. For one annual membership of £40.50... More

Although much smaller than Wisley and not so impressive, Hyde Hall is a great place to wander around for a couple of hours. They have developed the gardens over the years. I love the lily pond and the gorgeous flower borders. The roses, many of which are scented, are lovely too. There are interesting plants in the dry garden. At... More

The gardens are beautiful but the two coffee shops are very expensive. Cafeteria style in the shop, very uninspiring, slightly better in the gardens but very expensive.

In some ways Hyde Hall is reminiscent ofRHS Wisley with a similar long rectangular pond full of waterlilies and fish. But it is special for its dry garden, illustrative of plants that can be grown in this dry cornier of the UK. The plants are never watered. Unlike Wisley the gardens can be easily visited in a morning or afternoon.They... More

It is wonderful to wonder around the gardens and see the different types they have as well watch the changes through the year. The cafe is overpriced for what it is and service can sometimes be a bit surly. Just take your own food and drink and enjoy the flowers!

We visited for the first time and loved the gardens. Well worth the four and a half hour round trip. However the barn restaurant was chaotic at lunchtime. The choices of hot foods limited, so many picked sandwiches and these were most disappointing. We had read the packaging but found them tasteless and dry, most certainly not buttered! So glad... On our way back home we left the main road to find this garden. We had long wanted to visit and were certainly not disappointed. To start with, it is in a fabulous position with lovely views across the surrounding countryside and which certainly give the lie to the old idea that East Anglia is flat! A real plantsman's garden... More

People do make the assumption that Essex is a flat county, but our hilltop position means that we are fortunate enough to have stunning 360 degree views of the rolling countryside and each season brings new delights to enjoy. Great to hear that our Hellebore display has inspired you to consider making changes in your own garden. More

This was our second visit to Hyde Hall since the opening of the new entrance. On our previous visit, we took the sign posted circuitous route from the new A130. This time we remembered the more direct route from Chelmsford using the old A130, but then had to pass the new car park, before gaining entry further on (unfortunately, there... More

Having had many enjoyable visits to these gardens in the past, it was disappointing to have yesterday's visit spoilt by a person who clearly lacked any appreciation of good customer service. Just before 4.00pm my partner was told by an officious person in no uncertain terms that "we are closing now" and that I would have to leave. He was... More

So sorry to hear that your day at Hyde Hall ended in the way that it did. The manner in which you were asked to leave was unacceptable and we will be reminding all our staff that we do expect them to be couteous and respectable at all times (even if they are having a bad day!). I do hope... More
