Owner description: Behind the walls of our Victorian building in the heart of Southwold sits one of the most modern breweries in the UK. Over the past few years the brewery has undergone a complete refurbishment with the replacement of the brewstream being the most recent update. This state-of-the-art installation recovers 100% of the heat and steam from each brew, 90% of which is used to reheat the next. This reduces the amount of gas needed during the brewing process by 30%.The new system can also brew larger batches in less time, making more efficient use of raw materials. It is also very efficient in water usage with a ratio of 3.2 pints of water to every pint of beer, compared to the industry average of 8. It even cleans itself and we’re trying to programme it to make the tea too. But don’t just take our word for it, book a tour, come and meet one of the brewery team and see it all for yourself.

We went on a wet & miserable Monday. Our tour guide was Bob a friendly, chirpy & knowledgable character. We thoroughly enjoyed our day from start to finish. Yes it's not ideal for people with mobility issues but then again it's a working brewery not a show brewery built for tours!!

We visited the brewery this weekend for a tour - 2 of our party had mobility limitations with one being in a wheelchair, we looked at information on the site before booking and were under the impression that the tour would be suitable. Now whilst some of the tour did have access for wheelchairs I was surprised that a significant... More

Took the family for my significant birthday, and we all had a really interesting experience. The guide was excellent and paced it perfectly, and was very patient and informed when answering questions. The impression given of the process, the philosophy and the development of brewing at Adnams adds a great deal to the enjoyment of the final product-even after years... More

My wife and I visited on a Saturday when the brewery was quiet and had a brilliant tour, looking around all areas and inside machinery. Wear good shoes as there are a lot of steep metal stairs and walkways to climb if you want to see inside the brewing tanks. What is interesting is the way the brewery sits behind... More

Really good tour. Staff were approachable and knowledgable and the tastings were very generous. I would have awarded 5/5 if there had been an opportunity to see the bottling, however this is done off site. A great way to spend an afternoon.

We were booked in for the tour of the Brewery and then a Gin making experience. Jane our tour guide was very nice and easy to listen too. We were with one other couple who were also interested in Gin which was nice. It was a very informative tour, lovely to hear about the relationship between the brewery and the... More

Tour presented by knowledgeable and amusing guide covering history of the brewery and the brewing process. Finished with a tasting of a number of their current ales. Taken to Adnams Cellar and Kitchen where there was a spirits tasting. Do read all the 'small print' on the website of what to expect on the tour. We visited at a weekend... More

It's been a great experience and a good mix of knowledge; Company history, raw materials, the machinery, and not forgetting the brilliant beers. A very well stocked shop at the end :) Now have some great memories, photos & video of a truly great day out. Well done Adnams and our tour guide Danielle - Thank you. Looking forward to... More

My husband is a big ale fan...he's a CAMRA steward and we do a lot of brewery tours. This was booked as part of his Birthday mini break. The tour guide was excellent, informative, lively and energetic with great personality. Having arthritis I found the pace of the tour a bit fast and I could not do all the stairs,... More
