Owner description: Behind the walls of our Victorian building in the heart of Southwold sits one of the most modern breweries in the UK. Over the past few years the brewery has undergone a complete refurbishment with the replacement of the brewstream being the most recent update. This state-of-the-art installation recovers 100% of the heat and steam from each brew, 90% of which is used to reheat the next. This reduces the amount of gas needed during the brewing process by 30%.The new system can also brew larger batches in less time, making more efficient use of raw materials. It is also very efficient in water usage with a ratio of 3.2 pints of water to every pint of beer, compared to the industry average of 8. It even cleans itself and we’re trying to programme it to make the tea too. But don’t just take our word for it, book a tour, come and meet one of the brewery team and see it all for yourself.

This was a birthday treat for my Husband and he was thoroughly pleased. It was a very interesting and informative, our tour guide knew her subject and she was able to answer any questions my husband asked. This was on Saturday 17th Jan 11.00 am. Would recommend to anyone, the tasting is interesting and a surprise. Do visit the shop... More

A very nice birthday present from my son who accompanied me on an excellent tour. Very interesting and informative. A good insight into the world of beer making. We appreciated the tasting at the end too.

It's short enough an experience to easily include in your itinerary, yet informative and sufficiently laid-back to qualify as a holiday must. Definitely not limited to 'boozy old blokes' whose only interest in life is where the next pint's coming from. My girlfriend bought us tickets, assuming she'd be "just tagging along", but thoroughly enjoyed herself and ended up asking... More

We visited on Sunday 18th January and booked onto the 12pm tour, our guide Ross was very informative and friendly and took time to answer our questions. It was very interesting to see behind the scenes of Adnams, I have always enjoyed their products and now have a greater appreciation of the technicalities of the process. It was great to... More

After the Friday afternoon Make your own gin, we did this trip on the Saturday. The guide, Lucy, was knowledgable, and kept it low key and interesting. The tasting was good, and again, not stingy. Around 10on this trip, good crowd. Back to the shop for a spirit tasting - again, not stingy. Walk/taxi recommended

Very informative, but a little repetitive, four ingredients in beer, and during the tour you'll hear the same story four times, once while you wait for the tour to start, once as an intro to the tour, again during the tour, and again afterwards when you think of how many times you just heard the same story! Good little tour... More

Whilst staying with a group of friends in Southwold we booked a tour of the brewery..it was very interesting and learned a lot about how beer is made. We also were told a lot about the history of Southwold itself. An excellent tour followed by a good tasting of many of their beers....cheers!

Have been meaning to do this tour for a few years now and finally got to do it when we were staying in Aldeburgh for a few days at the beginning of November. We booked in advance and everything was handled very efficiently. We were greeted at the appointed time by a Dutch lady guide who was very friendly and... More
