Gorgeous forest. The cycle trail we did was 4.5 miles and was quite hilly. There was one particular I'll that was really tough. Make sure u check terrain before u set off if u aren't a regular cyclist.

I'll start by saying we used to visit Hamsterley Forest with our 2 kids some 12-13 years ago when they were younger. Very pleasant day out. How it's changed!! £4 to park on what is basically pen ground...okay, not a fortune to be fair. There are two main issues, however. First is the absolute HUGE amount of dog filth everywhere...... Hamsterley has a lot to offer to both families and mountain bikers. The mountain bike trails cover all disciplines and skill levels and s re always well maintained. The FC have paid lots recently for a new bridge, cafe and most recently toilet block. It has some great places for family walks and dog walking however there are just a... More

This place is awesome for dog walking however not all dog owners are responsible. There a bags of poo all over the place due to there being no dog poo bins.

This a substantial recreational forest, well signposted from the A68. After the toll gate (manned on weekends) you will find plenty of parking in the general area of the visitors' centre. Many people now come here for mountain biking, however, it is also very good for wildlife. In numerous visits we've seen Crossbill, Green Woodpecker, Green Hairstreak, Adders, and the... More

Large area of forest with open clearances - excellent for picnics, country walks, cycling and much else besides. Reasonable admittance charges - £4 per car for unlimited stay, no matter how many passengers. "A river runs through it" - the river Wear, quite shallow at this point close to its source: it's possible to cross by stepping stones. A Great... More
