Had a fun day out with the kids on the gruffalo trail. My 2 year old enjoyed the picture hunt sheet while my 5 year old enjoyed looking for the letters on the alternative gruffalo hunt sheet, well worth the £2 for the optional pack (I bought 2 to save arguments and was glad I did as both kids enjoyed... Visited with grandchildren to do the Gruffalo Child walk, it was very good. If however you have quite young children, it was quite a long way to walk there and back. Many different pathways and trails. The only thing that stopped me giving 5* was the fact that people were aloud, seemingly to have dogs off leads, we met a few,... More

We've had a brilliant day out exploring the forest and following the gruffalo trail - great fun with 2x two year olds who were occupied all the way there and back with plenty to see and do. The trail is easy to get round with a pram too which makes it an excellent family day out. £3 to park and... More

Lovely day out, went to go on the Gruffalo trail easy walk kids enjoyed it, easy to follow route that we have walked before but adds interest for the kids. Worth having a little read of the signs gets the kids asking questions looking at what's around them.

We recently moved to the area and love our walking as a family and were excited for what we would find at Hamsterley. We were not disappointed. We took our kids through a walk called the gruffalo trail and my son loves the gruffalo so that was him happy for the day, especially when he saw the huge wood carved... More

Hamsterley forest is beautiful. The surroundings are picturesque. Car parking is cheap and it is perfect for picnics and barbecues etc. It's fun to walk in the river and chill on the side, also hamsterley forest is great for bikes because it has different difficulty tracks. Lastly, it has a gift shop with friendly staff. Overall it's amazing. Plus must... More

Me and my friends went to walk along the rivers and it was fabulous although the wind was nippy we had a perfectly pleasant walk. It has a lovely picnic area with picnic benches and once the sun came out we had a gorgeous picnic lunch.
