Day off to visit

Loved the tour and the history of the Statehouse. I enjoyed the mosaic tile of all of the Ohio counties in the lower level of the Statehouse.

If we have a chance we like to visit State Capitals on our vacations. The Ohio Statehouse is in town, but relatively easy to find. There is parking under the House that is convenient and reasonably priced. Getting into the building involves the usual security, metal detector; be sure to photo identification available. We got there later in the day,... More

I went on guided trip. Our group was small. It was only a family of 4 and myself. The guide was very informative and took the time for us to enjoy and ask questions. I lve to tour state houses and this tour is very good.

Easy to find downtown but parking is metered everywhere around. However it was only 75cents per hour, which we thought was pretty reasonable. The Statehouse has no dome as most Capitol buildings. However it has Greek Renaissance type pillars and is beautiful inside with the usual House of Representatives and Senate chambers. The grounds are also lovely - beautiful gardens... More

The Statehouse is in the geographic center of Columbus… perfectly centered downtown. And when you're there, it's definitely worth a a visit if you're interested at all in Ohio history. Nice museum, nice people.

This was my first time visiting . I went while my husband was at a conference nearby. The building is historic and I love the architecture. Most of the things to see are in the basement part of the building. There is a small museum, a gift shop, and some historical items. There are several made in Ohio items in... More

The Ohio Statehouse has an interesting history. The original capital statehouse was a simple two story building in central Columbus, but quickly proved to be inadequate for the needs of the government. Then in 1838, a contest was held for the design of a new Ohio Statehouse which generated 50 entries from which three were selected for prizes, two architects... More

We visited the statehouse on June 17. There is a big parking lot under the statehouse ($5). The guided tours are on the hour. You have to go to the basement in the "Map room" in front of the gift shop. After the tour visit the education center and get an idea how the government is formed, works and does... More

My traveling companion loves to visit state capitals and our trip to Columbus was no exception. They have free tours which begin on the hour. The guides are volunteers and ours was excellent. A worthwhile stop if your into this kind of thing.

Home to a surprisingly tourist-friendly museum, this building's Rotunda once held the casket of President Lincoln. Self-guided tours are available. Check ahead for times on guided tours. Find nearby parking and walk to the Statehouse. Cozy little snack bar inside is also a good stop for a reasonable lunch.
