In the summer Kent State University puts on a different play in June, July and August at the Porthouse Theatre in the open air amphitheater. The plays are excellently done and the venue is large enough to attract excellent talent yet small enough to have excellent seating. My wife and I have been and are season ticket holders. The cost... The actors and actresses put on a great performance. We enjoyed the show very much. The Porthouse Theatre is ideal spot for family and friends to having a picnic meal and to enjoy a wonderful musical

My husband and I have purchased season tickets (3 plays) for 3 years in a row. It's become a tradition for us -- a picnic before the play on one of their many picnic tables and then a play. It's open air but you're covered. Some of the best plays have been when it starts to rain outside. It's absolutely... More

Porthouse Theater has a partnership with Kent State University and produces really good open air theater shows during the summer months. Our favorite was "The Importance of Being Earnest", which we took our younger kids to see and we all loved it! Looking forward to 2014's schedule and a return to al fresco theater!!

Saw a performance of Fiddler on the Roof which was very well done, good cast and music. Very professional and great atmosphere. This was my first visit and I was very pleasantly surprised. Will definitely plan to see a performance next summer.

The Kent State theater groups always put on a spirited fun show. We've seen quite a few over the years and always leave with a good feeling about waht we just saw. It's fun to go with a group of people and picnic before the show. The new fans they added above the seating area this year have really improved... More

I went to Porthouse theatre for the first time in Aug 2012. The sound of music was the best show I have seen in awhile. It is a cozy outdoor theatre and even though it holds about 500, everything is visible and the sounds are excellent. The concessions are good and the staff is friendly and the cast comes out... Good to bring a picnic for dinner beforehand. Outdoor venue, dress appropriately for the temperature.

Each summer, the theater arts department of Kent State University stages 3 plays at Porthouse. Most of the actors are graduate students at Kent and a few are seasoned professionals. The theater is located adjacent to Blossom Music Center and is an outdoor facilty with a roof and padded seats. No air conditioning so nearly everyone dresses very casually. Bring... More

A great theater open to the summer night. It's a great drive out through the Cuyahoga Valley from Cleveland. You can enjoy a picnic dinner on the park-like grounds, and then enjoy what is generally quality theater.
