Here he shares the meanings behind the art, explaining how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and shows how we all have a spiritual connection to land, wherever we come from. « less

This tour was education, insightful, enjoyable and positive. The landscape is astoundingly beautiful when you arrive but that soon paled in comparison to the spirit of our guide. He was enthralling talking about his cultural heritage and family history and sharing his beliefs and reasons for sharing this with us. I felt so blessed to have had this experience. I... More

We were picked up from our Cooktown hotel by Willie Gordon, Nugal clan elder and story keeper and then collected a German family of 3 to make up a group of 5. As we drove out to the traditional birthing site of his clan, where Willie’s own father and grandfather had been born, he explained many things to us about... More

We selected this tour as an add-on that we could include in our free time on the Adventure North 2 day tour Cairns to Cooktown. On day 2 our 4WD tour leader drove us with Willie Gordon, a Nugal-warra Elder and this tour's guide, from Cooktown to the site near Hopevale. Willie's passion, knowledge and ability to impart that knowledge... More

This tour was great fun with jovial tour guide Willie. The tour involved a pleasant walk through beautiful scenery with visits to rock art and cultural sites. Willie shared with us a huge amount of knowledge about the local environment and the aboriginal way of life and spoke sincerely on wider issues. It was a privilege to hear the stories... More

We had the tour with Willie in september. He picked us up at our hotel and afterwards a young couple of Paris. We loved the tour and Willie is a true story teller and also shared his personal experience. When he told about family you see it comes right out of his heart! Learned also things about nature. Thank you... More

I found out about this tour when looking up Cooktown activities on TripAdvisor and I agree with the over supportive reviews. I highly recommend this tour. Willie picked me up at my motel and then picked up other members of the tour. We drove about 40 minutes to the tour location. The focus of the tour was about traditions regarding... More

We saw a brochure for the day tour while at Daintree last year and decided to book as soon as we knew we were coming back again. So glad we did because it was a wonderful day. Willie is a natural born story teller and had the 8 members if our group mesmerised from start to finish. The history, paintings... More

Willie is a great storyteller who brings to life the landcape and stories of his people and they way they lived. We would never have gained such an understanding of the richness of the Aboriginal culture and the sorrow of the impact of bad decisions by the government and reaction of his people.

You can go to Split Rock at Laura and maybe see better paintings, but what makes Willie's tours so important is that they put the art in its cultural context and give it meaning way beyond ochre on rock. Listening to Willie also provides an idea of the wide range of political and policy views in the Indigenous community and... More

Can't recommend this more highly! We did a 4hr easy grade hike (Willie brings water and muesli bars) and Willie picked us up and dropped us off from our motel. This tour made our trip to Cooktown. Willie is the most wonderful storyteller and gave a context and favour that we never could have gained otherwise. Willie segueways easily from... More
