On these magical tours, Aboriginal Elder, Willie Gordon, takes guests to his ancestral rock art, high in the hills above Cooktown. Here he shares the meanings behind the art, explaining how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people. With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives an amazing insight into Aboriginal society and shows how we all have a spiritual connection to land, wherever we come from.

Willy is keen to educate all who come on his tour - not just about aboriginal cave art and the local fauna and flora - which he is expert upon - but also on reconciliation. Willy is immediately your friend. One of the many allegories he provided in the five hours of the tour was to liken a life well-lived... More

This is an amazing, educational, entertaining tour. Willie is a great interpreter of his heritage. We learned a lot about the area, how the indigenous people worked with the environment and some of their history. This tour takes all morning but the time goes quickly as there is so much to see and learn. This is a walking tour but... More

Willie Gordon should be a national treasure, his knowledge and welcoming attitude made this walk one of the best of this type I have done - anywhere! You should wear good walking shoes or boots and be prepared for some rugged terrain but the pace is easy and there are plenty of stops.

The best way to learn about Aboriginal history in Australia is to talk to our indigenous people, and Willie Gordon who runs interesting and educational tours with Guurrbi Tours near Cooktown is a perfect example. He will amuse, entertain and educate you on a very relaxing 3 hours walk through traditional Aboriginal land steeped in history. Willie uses his own... More

Art, philosophy, ecology, botany, with a touch of Irish humour! This tour with local indigenous man Willie Gordon has it all. Willie picked us up from our hotel in Cooktown and we joined a small group on a tour of the land of his people to see rock art and learn about the stories behind the pictures. The bushwalk was... I felt truly privileged to have met this man and to have him share his wisdom and insights with my family and I. If there were more 'Willys' in the world, then I think reconciliation would move ahead in leaps and bounds. You have a wonderful way of communicating and your openness to share your experiences and views is inspiring.... More

Willie is a lovely, laid back, friendly and knowledgable man who was a helpful guide. We were picked up at 7:30 and driven by Willie to the rock art sites. En route he told us about the local area and a bit about himself. The walk itself lasted about 3 hours but it was slow, easy walking and lots of... More

Was wanting a snippet of experience with a real aboriginal tour guide and certainly got that. I got to see Willie's grandfather's birthplace (and his stone axes) on a beautiful property not too far from Cooktown. The rock art was very interesting accompanied by Willie's interesting commentary. What really impressed me was his interaction and engagement of the only young... More

Sash, aged 7 says "it was very fun. I loved all the paintings. I liked doing my own painting and a presentation." Bill says don't go to Cooktown without doing this tour! We learnt so much from Willy.
