I came across the mine site while 4x4 offroad exploring in the area and didn't realize you're to have a guided tour to see the site. None-the-less, the area is quite interesting and well maintained. There is a lot of structures and history here to explore. Definitely find out about the guided tours as I'm certain the education they provide... More

My wife, myself and our then 7 year old dude stumbled across this mine tour while we were staying near Nordegg - and we were really glad we did!! It turned out to be one of those great suprises you come across when you're on a trip!! We went there on a rainy day, but since it was mostly indoors... More

We arrived too late to take the full mine tour but did enjoy a tour of the small musem and gift shop. We enjoy reading about the men who travelled to this very remote to mine coal and build a very thriving company town populated by up to about 2500 people during it's heyday. The gift shop has a variety... More

The guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. Due to safety reasons, there are limited access points to the mine entrances. There are better accessible mines in the Rocky Mountains for sure. It was a nice trip into history - but it was a do it once only experience.

If photographing mining artifacts is your forte, look no further! Ongoing work by local enthusiasts is gradually opening up more areas to the public. It's good to see historical sites being preserved so well.

When in the area in the summer season (mid May to mid September), make sure you visit the little mine museum which includes a cozy cafe and gift shop. Here you can also book one of the guided tours to the mine, which will take you through the mine site with its many industrial artifacts and buildings (all above ground... More

This is worth an afternoon to see first-hand, the huge size of this coal mining operation. My personal guess is that because of size of the facilities, the related cost to restore them and an impending safety factor, the opportunity to go through them all will be limited in the near future. So for a full experience, go now.

We went on the recommendations of a family member. It was well worth it. The site and the history is amazing. We went on a walking tour with two other people and our guide. It's a great place to be on a nice day and the guide let us take pictures at our own pace. Very beautiful scenery and a... More

The visitor centre also contains the small museum displaying the history of Nordegg and it's coal mining heydey. It was a very interesting story telling of the birth and death of a coal mining town. We spent well over an hour looking at the displays although a fast reader could do it in thirty minutes. There is also a cafe... More
