Visited mid-week with DMU's running so not seemingly that exciting a prospect. This railway grew on me though. Lots of shops and catering at the Wirksworth HQ and friendly staff. The run is relatively long (9 miles) through pleasant countryside down to the former junction with the main line at Duffield. There is nothing at Duffield and so the turnaround... More

We arrived early and were walking around the outside when a lovely lady volunteer spotted us and asked if we would be interested in looking round the engine sheds while we were waiting for the station to open. She gave us a very informative guided tour (including H&S requirements) in particular a narrow gauge Lister engine which she had helped... More

I visited the EVR last weekend for the first time - they had a diesel running day, instead of the usual multiple unit timetable - and had a fantastic time. Parking is free and plentiful at Wirksworth. The timetable isn't what you'd call intensive (4 round trips daily), but they always run to time. We found out from the station... More

We traveled on a rather damp Sunday a couple of weeks ago starting out from Duffield. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Travelling on the old diesel rail-cars it brought happy memories. Even the windows rattled the same as I remember them !

Spent a lovely afternoon at this heritage railway. We took our two grandsons, aged 2 and 4. They absolutely loved the trip from Wirksworth to Duffield and back. The train is beautifully kept as is everything else. The toilets were spotless with good baby changing facilities. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The boys loved watching the mainline trains... More
