Spent the day here and walked from dovedale to milldale where we purchased a nice hot drink from the house shop. Fed the ducks and then walked the journey back taking in the caves. Lots of people also enjoying this walk and had to wait a little bit before crossing on the stepping stones which the children always love. Such... More

The walk along Dovedale is about 3 miles through a gorgeous dale, with steep sides and a meandering river, mostly wooded but with some open places. At the end of the walk there is a small village where you can buy lunch, before returning back to the start. The walk is busy on a good day, and there are plenty... More

We had a fine walk from Hartington to Dovedale. A lovely stroll along easy paths by the beautiful river through fields and woods and by caves and a natural arch to Dovedale itself with its famous stepping stones - and a nice little National Trust shop manned by friendly people!

Great for dog walking, or just rambling, pleasant walk to the stepping stones and available for pushchairs and wheelchairs to reach

We went as we were advised to go there with our young labradoodle and it was a lovely scenic area. It was very busy when we went but it doesn't take away from the breathtaking scenery. There were lots of dog walkers there and my dog had a great time playing in the water. The only thing I would say... More

Walked 3.5 miles to Milldale from Dovedale and back. Parked at Dovedale for £2.50 all day. Got a map from kiosk with helpful staff for a pound. Easy to walk. Small climb and some rough bits. Lovely small shop called Pollys at Milldale, hot and cold drinks plus hot pasties etc. very reasonable. On return journey spotted a heron and... More

It was an absolute treat visiting Dovedale with my partner. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful and the stepping stones make the area fun for all the family. A real 'detox' walk definitely a must-visit for the Peak District, with or without dogs! We cannot leave this review without mentioning the very helpful ticket man at the gate who was... More

Lovely walk alongside the river. It helped that the sun was out. The first part to the stepping stones is popular with families, walkers and dogs but after that it thins out so you get a variety of entertainment as you go along. Some climbs and some great views with imposing rocks, cliffs and caves. At the end of approx... More

We parked at Milldale and walked the 3 miles to the end near Ilam. It was fun to walk over the stepping stones although the dog refused to go over and wouldn't walk through the river either so ended up walking along the river to the bridge at the end, lots of other dog walkers were doing the same. You... More
