My father and I have walked around this reservoir a number of times, but most recently about 3 weeks ago. It is about 8 miles around and there are some hills, a few of which cause my father to stop and take his breath half-way up. You may want to bear this in mind depending on the people in your... We stayed at Carsington Village and walked and cycled along the very well maintained pathways to the bird lookout and the visitors centre. Lovely cafes and shops and excellent play area for the children

Nice day out. If you take some food the only cost is parking. Playground and walks for kids. Cafe upstaris and a couple of shops too. You can hire bikes and there is a bird watchers lookout to try.

Excellent inland resort with lots of wildlife. Great for the kids with watersports. An 8 mile walk around the reservoir takes some beating as there is nothing like this in the midlands. Not sure during the winter. Well worth a visit if you like walking or cycling also.

The day we visited was very cold, but that didn't stop us from enjoying a lovely walk, and we were lucky enough to see a whooper swan as well as other water birds. There are a small but very good selection of shops, including an R.S.P.B. shop where you can rent binoculars if you haven't brought any. Cafe, outdoor clothing... More

We visited Carsington water whilst staying in Ashbourne. First impressions were good. A lot of the car park was being cleared of the snow to make it easier for visitors to park. We walked quite about of the trail and used the tea room to warm up and refresh on our return. Due to the snow there were plenty of... More

Nice walks around the reservoir and a pleasant area for a sit down or some light shopping. There is also a clothes shop that sells among other ranges a Joules section with quite a choice. Stop and have an Ice ream which is locally made and delicious.

As well as the walks around the reservoir there are plenty of other things for a visit. Several shops including crafts and outdoor clothing. Pleasant restaurant with everything from a cup of tea with cake to hot lunches. Adventure playground for the children. Wildlife centre. The parking fee of £2.50 for 2 hours (or 3?) may be bit steep but... More

Spent almost a full day walking round the water watching all the activities that we're going on. They have a nice eating area plus little shops in a courtyard would be a wonderful place in the summer for a picnic
