Bike riding was tough on a little one. The track in places was steep. It was however a lovely place to spend an afternoon.

After a reasonably pleasant hour we went to the shop to get some sweets for the children. Had a few hours cycling with my young sons. It is flat but be warned it is very open to the elements! Not bad charges for the parking, but the sandwiches we bought in the cafe were expensive so I will be taking my own next time!

I visited Carsington Water twice during a short break in Wirksworth in September 2014 with my husband and toddler daughter. We had no idea how lovely this part of the country was and were delighted to discover Carsington Water in particular. As another reviewer has mentioned, you do have to pay for parking: I think it was £2.50 for two... More

We cycled around the lake, 8.5 miles. A few steep inclines but not too bad. Could be a little busy at weekend and holidays.

A very well designed visitors facility to go alongside an attractive reservoir. Well worth a visit even if you are not a serious walker.
