We were lucky to visit the mill on a weekend day when the mill's steam engine was in operation. The rain was wet but most of the interesting exhibits were inside. For a reasonable cost of £6.80 a little more than usual entry as there was an exhibition of charcoal making taking place, we were given a tour of the... More

We found this a very interesting afternoon visit, the mill is set in beautiful peaceful country side. We were shown around by our guide who told us the history and working of the mill, demonstrations of the old machinery made it extremely interesting. They also allow dogs to go round with you which was great and quite unusual, as when... More

This was recommended to us with great enthusiasm but we couldn't imagine that bobbins could be that marvellous but this guided tour makes you think. It never occurred to me that cotton reels were made by hand before plastics! The guided tour and demonstration is fascinating. Can't believe I am writing this but it was ! You may have to... More

I am sure that those of us of a certain age (who can remember the days when sewing cotton was wound on wooden bobbins and duffle coat toggles were made of wood) never gave a moment's thought as to how and where these were made. The answers are to be found here at Stott Park Mill which is a fascinating... More

As It was a cloudy day, we decided to go somewhere indoors and went to Stott Park bobbin Mill. I thought it might be a bit boring ( went to keep wife happy). I was very pleasantly surprised. There is a guided tour every 30 minutes. The guide was very good and the tour around the mill was very interesting... More

Tour starts outside, but is all indoors so great if it is raining. Staff were super and obviously love what they do. You are taken through the whole process, including the history of the company and machines. you will be shown a bobbin being made from scratch, great place for photos and just really interesting all round.

We arrived late in the day, not long before closing. I assumed tours were finished for the day, but the staff kindly offered to do one last tour, giving us a detailed tour and staying until a few minutes past closing. Informative and lovely time at the mill! A great stop.

The last remaining bobbin mill in the UK which served the cotton and wool textile industries of Britain and further afield. Very informative, excellent guided tour, demonstrations of wood turning and bobbin making, and very well laid out with informative and well illustrated information boards. Great little shop too. The wood dust can be a problem if you have allergies.

Have driven passed this many times over the years. Yesturday whilst on a walk called in. This is a beautifully maintained part of our industrial heritage. I was suprised. Living in an area of the country where the customers of this and other bobbin mills used to be it was interesting to see the manufacturing end The mill is just... More
