We found this place incredibly interesting and a real insight into UK social history, which we both enjoy. The staff were very helpful indeed and very knowledgeable. We spent an afternoon here and even while waiting for the tour to begin, there is plenty to read up on about the history of the mill and places to sit, all under... More

A large party of scouts visited here as part of their exploration of Cumbria whilst camping in the area. We were welcomed and divided into smaller groups to visit the various parts of the attraction separately. The mill visit was excellent and the young man showing us round was well versed in his subject and tried to take us back... More

As new members of EH, we (husband and wife) decided to visit the Bobbin Mill during our holiday in the Lake District October half term. It's like Dr Who's tardis - relatively small looking (even unspectacular) from the outside; but, once inside, it becomes an impressive power-house of social and industrial history. We visited on a popular day when the... More

What a super place. Well planned and informative displays. Excellent, knowledgable staff who brought the past to life with their explanations and demonstrations. I really wanted to have a go on the lathe after watching Tracey show us how the rough bobbins were made but agreed that I would not have wanted to have done the same thing for 12... More

Stott Park Bobbin Mill close to Newby Bridge, Lake District. We visited this fascinating place on Wednesday 22 October 2014, and found it to be a little gem. We had a guided tour which was really interesting. Thank goodness there are places like this for us to visit to found out how things were in times gone by, otherwise they... More

We have an annual English Heritage membership and were trying to make the most of it on a recent holiday in the Lake District. We saw the signs for the Bobbin Mill in passing and decided to call in. Now the place itself is amazing. It is so unexpected to come across such a historical and massive / important structure... More

I am sorry you did not manage to take a guided tour on your recent visit to Stott Park Bobbin Mill. Access to the interior of the mill is by guided tour only because we demonstrate the original belt driven machinery to show how the bobbins are made. The tours are an integral part of our offer and as you... More

Visited with 2 teenagers and 2 younger children and all enjoyed and were captivated. Do take the tour where you will experience bobbins actually being made using the original working machinery. One if the best historic sites we have been too, and well worth the trip.

Unexpectedly interesting tour of Bobbin Milll today. All staff very friendly and helpful. Added bonus of free entry with Manx National Heritage cards. If you are driving up into the Lake District I would unreservedly recommend a stop off here. Plenty of parking, easy to find

So very interesting & informative. Easy to find & plenty of adequate car parks. Their shop had unique local produce at fair prices & well informed staff.

After spending a few days in the Lake District we decided to visit Stott Park Bobbin Mill on the way home. What a surprise when we arrived an hour after the opening time and the gates were shut and no-one to be seen. This was on 23rd September and according to the notice near the gate should have been open.... More

Catherine H I am very sorry you were disappointed to find the Bobbin Mill closed when you visited recently. We are open Wednesday to Sunday inclusive 10am to 5pm but we close on Mondays and Tuesdays. Unfortunately the 23rd September was a Tuesday so we were closed on that day. Our opening times are advertised in the English Heritage handbook... More
