English Heritage have done an excellent job keeping this running. Very interesting and informative staff members.

Visited stott park today and really enjoyed it. The staff, from the off, we're very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I took part in the £6.60 tour of the mill which is very informative and interesting! As bizarre as this may sound the smell was beautiful. Really reminded me of industrial workings and museums :)

This is a wonderful place for all ages to visit and at £6.60 an adult ticket is great value for money. Outbuildings can be toured at your leisure but you must be guided around the mill itself. Friendly and knowledgeable guides demonstrate how bobbins were manufactured and explain how largely sustainable local resources combined with increasing demand from Lancashire led... More

This is a wonderful little gem and is certainly well worth a visit. It gives such a flavour of our industrial past and the informative staff certainly help bring the place to life. I hadn't realised that there was such a mine of information and history behind the humble wooden bobbin but it is genuinely fascinating. Well done for preserving... More

Great for adults and kids alike - make sure you come early as tours fill up fast. Look out for days when the steam engine is running (check on website).

Visited the Mill on a recent trip to the Lakes. We had to wait an hour for the next available tour, but it was well worth it. Our guide for the tour was Tracy and her knowledge was First Class, a real asset to the attraction. I would not hesitate to return when I next visit the Lakes. Would recommend... More

Lovely English Heritage site, with excellent guided tours. This is a working bobbin mill, allowing a rich understanding of one part of the Industrial Revolution. It was in service until 1971, extraordinarily, until the relentless rise of plastics finally sounded its death knoll. Near the bottom of Lake Windermere, with onsite parking available as part of entry (and thus free... More

This wasn't something on the top of my list to see but we were pleasantly surprised at how interesting it was. We parked at the top car park (there is a lower one for disabled visitors) and proceeded down a slope and some steps. Once in the main area we saw a cluster of buildings, showing a blacksmiths workshop, a... More

As we have access to the English Heritage sites in the UK included as a benefit with our currenr account we visit them whenever we are near one. The bobbin mill was a very interesting visit, giving an insight to how the poor lived in the area back in the bad old days when the rich land owners took advantage... More

A wonderful museum highlighting a lost skill and industry that used to be common on the Lakes. The engines and machines were all working the day we went and there was an informative and relaxed tour. Interesting for the kids to think about how environmental industry can be or was! This is exactly the kind of place English heritage should... More
