A very informative and interesting visit, for both the adults and our goddaughter, who loved finding the information points, answering the questions and completing her quiz. So much to see and the tour was led by very knowledgeable staff who were very welcoming. The demonstration of the tools being used was a bonus. A really good trip. Followed by boarding... More

My wife forced me to go. She found it very interesting. If you're into this kind of thing you'll be happy. I'm not into this sort of thing. My kids were interested and the guide was clearly knowledgeable and interesting. The practical demonstrations were good. My wife will happily return. I ended up buying crossbows for my kids in the... We all had such a fantastic time at the Bobbin Mill today, we learnt so much from the tour and demonstrations and we're thrilled with how much information was provided from the tour guide(Mick), and how they bought the mill to life. There was so much history to be learnt about the importance of the mill and how it had... More

We toured here in May on a day that the steam engine was working. Worth checking ahead to go on a day it is operating. The tour was fascinating - you are up close and personal with the machinery. The tour guides really gave us a feel for how it was to live and work in those times. It would... More

Sounds boring? Not a bit. A truly eyeopening visit with which to astound you friends with useless but highly entertaining information. Lovely location, lovely building and excellent guided tour of factory, how it was powered and how bobbins of all shapes and sizes were made - made before your very eyes. You will not be disappointed.

Stott Park is a restored bobbin mill, one of many that dotted the Lake District in the 19th century. A bobbin is used to wind thread around and used to be made of wood and varied in size from the ones my grandmother had when sewing to the large ones you see in old pictures of the Lancashire cotton mills.... We run the steam engine on the first weekend of the month and on Bank Holiday weekends so if you are particularly interested in steam power the next dates when we fire the boiler up are 1st Aug and 2nd Aug and... This mill has been restored to what it was in Victorian times. Very interesting to see the actual bobbins, which were used in the cotton mills of Manchester, Leeds and surrounding area, being made. You get very close to the machinery and get a great feel of what it was like to work in the very difficult conditions. There is... More

We are members of English Heritage and at £6.80 If you are not members is good value for this very educational and very interesting bobbing mill. The guide on our tour was very knowledgeable in all area's and made us realise how hard the work was in those days not only for adults but for the children working there as... More

Tour guide made the history of the area and of bobbin making real. Don't like being pressed to take out membership which is of no use and supports a very dated organisation

We were lucky to visit the mill on a weekend day when the mill's steam engine was in operation. The rain was wet but most of the interesting exhibits were inside. For a reasonable cost of £6.80 a little more than usual entry as there was an exhibition of charcoal making taking place, we were given a tour of the... More
