Nice to see a working bobbin mill to give a true perspective of an industry that is no longer required.

We were able to visit the mill on the last day of the season. But it is well worth the visit, it's very interesting even though you don't get to see everything working. But saying that they do open on what they call steam days, were more machinery is working. That's once a month. It's always good to here about... More

Went to visit Stott Bobbin Mill to fill in some time. It was an absolute gem very, very interesting. The guides and staff are all very enthusiastic about the history of the mill and very keen to demonstrate how everything works and makes the visit most enjoyable and wanting more.

We visited this bobbin mill as we were staying in the area for a short break. It exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide, Neil, was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the mill and its history, as well as how it fitted into the industrial heritage of the local area and the UK textile industry generally. Worth a visit.

Visited this because we are EH members and we in the area. We were so glad we did! Great insight into the industrial revolution and child labour. Amaziny how many bobbins had to made each week! Thanks to Maggie for the tour and Tracey for working the machinery. Would definitely recommend.

Tucked away in Lakeland near to the Lakeside ferry terminal at the south end of Lake Windermere is this fascinating look back at our industrial heritage. Bobbins for the weaving and spinning industries were made here, all shapes and sizes. The conducted tour shows how bobbins are made as well as explaining the history and working conditions. The staff are... More

The Stott Park Bobbin Mill is well worth a visit. It preserves a piece of history from the industrial revolution forward to the time when "plastics" took over. There is much to be learned here. It's fascinating.

This small working mill which was established in 1835 to produce bobbins is situated near the southern end of Lake Windermere down a narrow leafy lane. There are two car parks. If you are Members of English Heritage there is no charge for admission nor parking. Many of the original machines, driven by belts are still in situ and the... More

Bobbins, spools for thread or cables, not incredibly common these days. Possibly not very interesting too... so why have an attraction dedicated to them? Basically because they used to be incredibly important and despite looking boring there is a fascinating story behind their manufacture. The mill has regular tours, the tours tell the background of why bobbins were made, what... More

Was a working bobbin mill. Closed in 1971. Now a museum run by English Heritage. Very interesting tour of the mill by some of the staff. They even started up the machinery and actually made a few bobbins. Definitely worth a visit.
