I can only say, not for the faint hearted. The views are superb but its a bit hairy and I am pleased that I was not driving. You need to be aware of traffic coming in the opposite direction and drive sensibly.

A lengthy hair-raising, hilly, twisting road with incredible views. Drivers were courteous and there are passing places in several of the particulary narrow stretches. Not to be missed, especally on a clear day when the stunning stretch on for miles and miles.

These passes are a fantastic motoring experience even though we did this one in pouring rain and in competitiion with a lot of cyclists. The views are quite amazing and the twists and gradients which challenge the cyclist are just as challenging for a car. Would love to do it again in the other direction!

Daunting from the bottom, magnificent views from the top. Do not be put off by the apparently impassible view from the bottom. Take it steady using the passing places sensibly and give way to those on the ascent. You will have a sense of achievement once you get down the other side. Enjoy!

On the day we did this the weather had been showery although it was dry the sky was really dramatic which just added to the beauty. Not a hard road to drive just take it slowly as there are sheep on the road and sharp corners and lots of brows of hill that you cannot see over or round and... More

It is not a road for proper driving. It is mountain pass, which mostly used by farmers and by travellers. DO NOT use this pass, if you are not confident in your car, yourselves or weather conditions as it may be dangerous. Views are fantastic, see photos enclosed.

Over hardknott pass (not for the feint hearted) then over wrynose pass, it is like a different world, sheep and deer abundant. Cumbria's very own lost world

Be warned it's a narrow road, very steep (1 in 4), take your time though and look ahead to give way to other drivers, absolutely superb scenery, well worth the trip

We drove over wrynose pass and hardnot, on our way home from boot. Not for the faint hearted, but, the most beautiful scenery in the world!!! The road needs some attention as parts are really breaking up, but you don't expect anything else because of where it is.

Have been driving since Adam was a lad but the last drive on this pass will be the last. My new little automatic struggled with the severe gradients but coped well enough BUT for the numerous crazy modern 4x4 drivers assuming that coming downhill had right of way over those coming uphill. Maybe they can't reverse uphill. I'd rather drive... More
