We have visited this beach 5 times starting in 1991 (honeymoon) last visit October 2014. We love the lack of crowds, great snorkeling and little beach side restaurants and bars (La Buena Vida a favorite). Margaritas in the swing seats and dinner on beach. Snorkeling is great with small reef an easy swim from shore. We have stayed at several... More

This is an easy spot to snorkel and finding turtles could not be easier. This beach was easy to get to from our resort in Akumal and after the snorkeling there are little shops to visit and a place for lunch, ice cream or a small bar for a drink.

Stayed at a condo (Playa Caribe) right in the center of the HMB beach. Rocky entry in most places, and tons of sargassum when we visited, but a beautiful bay. Not as protected as Akumal Bay, but saw A surprising number of snorkelers on a daily basis, and a very tranquil setting. La Buena Vida restaurant makes a convenient resting/... More

We stayed in a rental house on Half Moon Bay from March 28-April 5. I can honestly say this was the most peaceful vacation we have ever taken. No crowds of people...we honestly felt like we were the only two people in the world some days. The beach is rocky...but once you get past the rocks the snorkeling is amazing.... More

We stayed at La Sirena, a small complex of 4 villas and a condo building. We were at the north end of the bay, about a mile from Akumal Beach. The shoreline if VERY shallow, and it can be a bit challenging to get out into deeper water for snorkeling. The nice thing is that within about 100 feet of... More

We always stay at one of the condos at Half Moon Bay. it has fantastic snorkeling, especially when its calm. The beach is very private, with no crowds. Great for a lazy day reading a book, snorkeling, or going to the Buena Vida.

But is uncrowded and quiet! There is just too much seaweed. Still pretty, but not great for snorkeling.

We ate at La Buena Vida twice over our week in paradise, uh, I mean Akumal. This restaurant is right on Half Moon Bay. From our table we saw a stingray pass by. One boat was tied to the shore. It seemed very shallow, and when we were there the shoreline was loaded with seaweed. (March 2015) I don't see... More

We enjoyed several snorkels here; it was the first time I saw the real colors of coral! We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet area and plan to return
