We stayed at a lovely condo right on the bay, put our snorkel gear on and found wonderful snorkeling, with great fish and a reef that seems to be in recovery mode. The bay is uncrowded, it is not very sandy so not great for regular swimming, but perfect for snorkeling and kayaking.

We enjoy Half Moon Bay for the views but definitely prefer snorkeling at Akumal Bay. It is lovely to walk along the entire bay in the early evening.

Half moon bay is a wonderful place to visit. The sites, people and surroundings are amazing. Great snorkeling. Restaurants and vendors offer what you need in the area. With great food and drinks.

I've never seen sea turtles before, so my review may be a little bias. We paid $30 USD for 2 people at the dive shop. That includes your snorkeling equipment, "locker" (it's a tote, but all you need), and a guide who spots sea turtle for you and takes you out to a reef outside the designated area. Also the... More

Half Moon Bay was a wonderful and peaceful experience. The beaches are not at all crowded, and there are three restaurants and a couple of small grocery stores along the mile-long stretch for convenience. This is not a place for the young party crowd. We snorkeled into the bay from our beach house and saw turtles, rays, barracudas, squid, and... More

Beach is pretty rocky and shallow. Snorkeling would be nice but there are many sea urchins out there. When you are floating in shallow water, only a few inches from sea urchins, it is very exciting but not in a good way. Go to Yalku lagoon for a place with fish and no sea urchins. It does cost money, but... More

Great place to spend the evening as it's not so popular area. Only residents on vacation access this beach.
