If you are staying in one of the hoses on half moon bay great . If you are not then the beach has no parking . The beach is nice and the way it is almost a half moon shape makes it very very safe for kids . The other akumal beaches have little or no current . Half moon... More

Went snorkeling at Half Moon Bay one day during a recent 10 day trip to Akumal and would rate it as an excellent place to snorkel. The water was calm the day I was there and there is plenty of marine life to see, as well as the occasional sea turtle. The people in the area are friendly and there... More

The half moon bay is nice to look at when your dining or something. But at the time i was there the waves were too big to go snorkelling. Compared to playa Akumal (which is right next to this lagoon) it is not as protected. Buildings are right next to the beach, if your willing to see the most ultimate/perfect... More

We are staying at Casa Maya, right on the beach at Half Moon Bay! Great snorkeling area protected by the reef. We see lots of fish every day here and it is not crowded...of course we are.here off season. Be sure to bring water shoes for walking the beach, especially if you are going to swim as there is coral... More

I stayed in a Half Moon Bay condo in Akumal and had a great time! My trip was back in April 2013. The weather was pretty good, and the area had a very laid-back atmosphere. As others have already mentioned, the beach is rocky, but you can still enjoy the view. Drinks were cheap and the seafood was tasty. One... More

We went on a weekday to avoid too many locals but it was still very crowded. The beach is beautiful white sand but no shade anywhere.

I stay on Half Moon Bay when I go to Akumal. It's truly beautiful and still peaceful -- despite condos and a smattering of restaurants and hotels, it's not what I'd consider to be overly developed (hopefully it won't become like that). The one thing I'd say is that the Bay is quite rocky in many areas, which can make... More

Free attraction in Akumal!! Quiet beach at any time of the day. You can relax on the sand, swim in the clear water, or go snorkeling in the bay in a huge coral reef. Tons of fish love this quiet closed off bay. The water is not rough because the coral reef breaks the wave action. We went there two... More

We enjoyed a wonderful 5-night stay here in July. Half Moon Bay is a gorgeous, quiet beach within easy walking distance to Akumal. We spent hours relaxing on our condo's patio (or in the hammock), enjoying the sun and the ocean breeze. We did snorkel in front of our condo, but didn't see as many fish or turtles as in... More

Really loved my time staying on Half Moon Bay. Beautiful beach, good snorkeling, great restaurants (loved La Buena Vida right on the beach), and I got to see the release of a baby turtle that got left behind in the nest. It was truly magical.
