You can walk in by the Buena Vida Restaurant ( a great place to eat!) and snorkel off the beach. I saw turtles and big, black rays here- which I didn't see at Akumal Bay. There are some rocky areas, not all sandy like at Akumal, but once you're in- it is great.

But this time there was a rumbling out in the ocean, which pulled a TON of dead seaweed to the beach. This, however didn't detract me. This is still a beautiful area, easy to access for either swimming or snorkeling. And I can't wait to come back!

We were told we could walk from Akumal Bay Beach to Half Moon Bay which you can but were not told there was a road parallel to the beach to do it. The iron shore the whole way was treacherous and difficult and not recommended. The only saving grace being lots of Iguanas along the way. Once we finally made... More

The water is very clear and the coral is beautiful, however, I recommend going when the water is calm. When we went is was windy and wavy so we couldn't enjoy exploring as much as we hoped. I'm sure it is much better on a calm day!

We stayed on the north end of Half moon bay. The water was simply too shallow to snorkel comfortably. On the north end it was difficult to get in and out of the water safely. The properties on the north end make it impossible to walk from one area to another as they block access to their own property. I... More

The snorkeling at half moon bay is very good but it is a very crowded beach. There were too many people snorkeling and swimming to make this an enjoyable attraction for me. If you walk down the beach to other spots you can have much more fun with way less people. this seems to be the place everyone goes.

You cannot get closer to the water than Vista Del Mar/Del Sol on Half Moon Bay. And there are some awesome sunrises in this quiet piece of Paradise! Although the rocks make it a challenge to swim if you can get past them the snorkeling is great. Sometimes the turtles can be seen from shore.

The only downside I can think of is that it's not a "deserted" beach, and as you look around to the corners of the bay, you see plenty of development. But it's always quiet, has nice sand, and offers pretty good snorkeling off the beach (although we didn't see any turtles.)

We were a little disappointed by not finding turtles in thus bay, it is very shallow and a very short beach. Turtle Bay where our hotel, Hotel Akumal Caribe is on is loaded with turtles, a lovely beach...but too many day people. For quiet however, Half moon is good. .

Saw lots of turtles and fish along with cool coral formations. Relax afterward at Buena Vida for happy hour.
