We encourage families and first-time snorkelers to plan a day at Yal-Ku Lagoon at Akumal. We had a great time all day. The snorkeling is easy and there are lots of fish to see. We rented our own palapa in order to get out of the sun when we wanted, and to have a place to eat lunch, read in... More

I've seen more fish at other spots in the Caribbean, but the ambience made this one of the nicer experiences I've had. Not fancy (just a small bathroom and thath-roofed changing area) but beautiful garden patch through bronze statuary leading to multiple points to enter trhe water. Very protected waters, great for small children just learning. $11 US was well... More

We paid our $10 each entry fee, thought the lagoon was beautiful (very scenic, lots of statues and vegetation) but the snorkeling was disappointing...the water is "oily" for lack of a better term, they tell you not the wear sunblock in the lagoon but obviously lots of people have beacuse parts of the lagoon have low visibility due to a... Yal-ku lagoon is just simply beautiful. The organization who owns the service is efficient and offer a parking and a little restaurant. Some of the profit made goes back to support organization that help to keep the lagoon in good shape. The lagoon is wide and you can see various fishes of many colors, sting rays or turtles. The lagoon... More

My husband and I were looking for a a place to snorkel for a few hours but did not want to go to the some of the other highly advertised places (Xel-ha, Xcaret). We took a cab from our resort in Playa del Carmen and paid the $10 entrance fee per person. It does cost $5 for each piece of... More

Great place to snorkel in a very natural environment with lots of pretty fish. Be VERY careful entering and exiting the water on the wooden steps as they get extremely slippery, especially in the early mornings before much use.

This is a beautiful snorkeling lagoon where the ocean salt water meets the cool fresh waters of the underground rivers that the Yucatan is known for. It is a unique, snorkeling experience.

Can get bust/ crowded but nevertheless you can walk about, get away from people; go snorkeling, see dozens of fish. Beautiful sculptures!
