We recently spent a delightful week in Akumal, Mexico. One of the unexpected pleasures we experienced was an art gallery, Galeria Lamanai, located a little back from Akumal Bay. Galeria Lamanai is, unfortunately, still a hidden treasure. There is very little parking adjacent to the Galeria and, unless you are on foot and come upon the Galeria by chance, you... More

At first thought it was a bit pricey but then read up about the artists and looked at the work going into each piece...not overpriced, it's a gallery not a gift shop. Although there are some good pieces that would make nice gifts. Worth a visit just to browse.

I recently had lunch at one of the restaurants on Akumal Beach and noticed a little gift shop behind it. At first I wasn't going to go in, but then changed my mind. SO GLAD I DID!!!! The art work is top notch and BEAUTIFUL!! The colors are so vivid. Some people have said the items are a little costly,... More

Went to this gift shop while visiting Akumal beach for the day. It's quite small, but does offer a lot of choice inside, plus you get a 10% discount if you pay in cash. There are many things to choose from, such as wood carvings, jewellery, masks, paintings etc. The only thing I was disappointed with, was the pricing of... More

The quality of the merchandise in Galeria Lamanai is superb. We visited twice during our Akumal stay and bought artwork, crafts and jewelry. The decision making was the hard part. And the staff is a bonus–friendly, smart, knowledgeable people on every visit. Don't miss this shop!

Have been to Akumal Beach three times and won't leave without visiting Galeria Lamanai. This shop has very unique crafted items that you do not find in other shops in Mexico. Each time I have visited I have bought something. The service was great and the shop keeper was informative about the different artists and very pleasant. A visit to... More

Galeria Lamanai is the best place to shop for that gift that you can't find anywhere else. One of kind products, fell in love with this shop. It had everything you could imagine, from jewerly to bookmarks......recyceld wallets made from candy wrappers to handmade wooden humming birds. DON'T miss this place when in Akumal!!!! I was so surprised and delighted to find a shop that actually sold beautiful one of a kind interesting object d'art instead of the tacky cheap souvenir stuff sold everywhere else. I actually did my Christmas shopping for my friends and family and bought some beautiful wooden sculptures and a metal sculpture of an armadillo for myself. Everything wrapped and... More
