This is a wonderful place to stroll, particularly at sunset, when the lake and mountains in the background provide some spectacular sights. It is well maintained and at weekends provides a place for the local inhabitants to enjoy a picnic. Although there are no restaurants on thr Malecon itself, there are any number within a couple of blocks. Aivars T.

The Malecon is the perfect place to enjoy views of Lake Chapala, the mountains in the distance, and the many birds which inhabit the lake. There are some restaurants, and very attractive homes and gardens to enhance your experience.

The malecon itself is nicely maintained. It offers good views of the lake. The walk itself is fairly short and other than the views, there isn't much to see. The largest restaurant is abandoned and dilapated. The "pier" also seems to be in great disrepair. As others have note, the Chapala malecon is much better. Go on a Sunday for... More

I was house and dog sitting in May, 2014 and took a walking on the Malecon everyday. I goes along the lake shore for about a half mile. There are steps down to the lakeshore at different points. There are also benches on the Malecon to sit and just take in the sites of the beautiful lake and mountains. This... More

We spent few quiet afternoons walking along the promenade sitting on a branch and enjoying the view. There are several restaurants along where you can have dinner and enjoy the lake. Also vendors with native rugs, hats, and other staff. Most of the time you'll see horses using the dried up shore as pasture. We enjoyed it as a quiet... More

As I walked down Colon for my first glimpse of the famed Ajijic malecon, the first thing I saw was the deserted building on the so-called pier. The views of the mountains, a lake smooth as marble, and horses majestically running free were magnificent. However, as an attraction, what's lacking are outdoor restaurants (save one) and benches with backs that... More

Be sure to walk the Malecon while staying in Ajijic or nearby. This peaceful walk is a "go to place" for many on any day in Ajijic....an "up close and personal" experience of beautiful Lake Chapala. It includes a skate park and work out machines.

What a lovely job Ajijic has done with their lakefront. Lots of fun there during the Easter celebrations. The water is way down but hopefully the rain will come.
