We were really interested in going to this museum. When we got there, it was overgrown with weeds and some of the cars had been vandalized and were rotting on the tracks. Our AAA guide book said it was open, but a person in town said it had not been open for years. Sad. Hope someone comes along and refurbishes... More

The cruise ship docked at Sydney;the small port town is very beautiful. Take the tour to Fortress Louisbourg and Cabot trail; breath in the coast line. When shopping for souvenirs or T shirts visit the shops off the dock. The T-s are half the price of the suggested "Shoe Tree" and of the same quality according to the labels.

The area is beautiful, the roads are good for driving, the railroad museum is very interesting and it is not very far to Sydney, where you can see a giant fiddle by the dock where the cruise ships come in, the parks are beautiful and the people are friendly.

Cute small place to kill a half hour or so, but I wouldn't make it the center of any itinerary. A more or less random collection of artifacts about the rail line that used to run through this area. One passenger car you can visit, a few rusting cars sitting on the rails, some Titanic stuff.

See the violin, walk through town, take time out to visit the tribal territory but also take the time to make your way to the Whitney Pier Historical Society Museum. It is a tinny little place filled to the rafters of the history of this place. Once a roaring Steel industry. This museum is a highly personal place, with the... More

What an excellent little find on route to the fortress! We made an impromptu stop here and were pleasantly surprised. Entrance is by donation and it's well worth anything you place in said donation box. tour around the three buildings and learn about Cape Breton's railway history and more. Plenty of artifacts to peek at and read about.

My husband is a model rairoad buff and always eager to stop at anything "train". This was no exception. 3 buildings of train memorablia. A very good collection that provided a lot of information in the history of the railway and how it impacted the lives of those around it. He was pleasantly surprised at how good this museum was.

My husband loves trains and when we travel we usually stop at one or more train stations and/or museums along the way. This was a great little stop. The collection is small, but good and the narratives accompanying the items are quite interesting. There is also a second class passenger car that visitors can board to get a glimpse of... More
