Just before the town of Ingonish, Cape Smokey is one of the first elevated spots to stop and take photos on the east side of the Cabot Trail. There is a picnic area and a large fenced in area with beautiful views of the ocean.

Loved the view - drove up on a September day and it was perfect weather, beautiful blue skies. We stopped at several shops along the way and the people couldn't have been friendlier. Loved it all
the hike is amazing..very rewarding..best veiw of keltic lodge on the planet..and u can hear whales at the end of the hike..so worth it..this trail is under rated..i shood know..i did them all
I love the highlands of Nova Scotia....but unfortunately I have developed a fear of heights....so all I have is wonderful memories of a place that I can no longer visit. If you don't have my problem then take a half a day and explore this Cape Breton wonder....it will be the best afternoon...one that you will never forget.
Fog will really hinder the location though, stick around because it will take your breath away! Take your time to navigate the the hills and just embrace the landscape
I never tire of the trip over Smokey! Although it is a short trip from Sydney to Ingonish, Smokey is always exciting. The views are amazing! Perfect for motorcycling! Be careful of wildlife and sharp turns -- perfectly safe if using caution
Worth stopping to hike along the cliffs to enjoy "see forever" views. We were impressed by the steep road climbing to the summit of Cape Smokey!
The view from atop the mountain was fabulous. I have many, many photographs from two days of travel along the route. One day it was too foggy to get clear views but I scored the next time with a brilliant blue sky. I can imagine how awesome it must be in the winter skiing there.
ACTUAL VISIT - Sep/Oct 2009 & 2010 Cape Smokey has gorgeous views....and the road getting there is a lot of fun!
Cape Smokey is awesome. The views are amazing. If you want to see wildlife, you need to travel through in the evening... but be careful and slow down!
