Visitors to Penang Butterfly Farm often find themselves surrounded by a myriad of fluttering butterflies within a seemingly natural setting, and imagining themselves in an enchanted wilderness, bejeweled with colourful gems of creation. The best encounter at Penang Butterfly Farm is undoubtedly the free flying papilions in the enormous enclosure. The live exhibition of selected invertebrates, reptiles and ornamental fishes are also crowd drawers.Beyond the aviary, Penang Butterfly Farm’s indoor live discovery sections provide an exciting time for families to get closer with other less explored fauna kingdoms such as tarantulas, frogs, beetles, snakes, lizards and aquatic creatures. Having traversed this complex with educational interactivity, live displays and an insect museum, visitors then walk through time in an art and artefact gallery which displays a huge range of genuine ancient relics and cultural antiquities. For the nostalgic and collectors, a souvenir outlet awakes the visitors, selling nature and butterfly related paraphernalia. « less

We were lucky we arrived as there was a 'show' or information session. We learnt about the life cycle of butterflies and got to witness many take their first flight. If it wasn't for this I would have been very disappointed. Butterflies were as large as we were told and the farm really isn't that much better than butterfly houses... More

The variety of butterflies was just amazing. We went with 2 kids here, and they had a blast seeing all the different butterflies. I highly recommend having the tour guide inside the premises take you around. It's well worth walking around with him/her as they explain to you all the different things worth seeing in the farm. Also, since we... More

If you have never been to a butterfly garden than this is a nice activity, because there are a lot of butterflies. Don't go in a weekend, because than it is filled with screaming and running children.

Visited on June 2, 2014. Very attracted to the different variety of butterflies and flowers there. Highly recommend if you love butterflies even though the farm is a bit small. You can take one bus (cannot remember the bus no.) from George Town. This bus will pass the famous beach, Batu Ferringh to this farm.

Hi, Greetings from Penang Butterfly Farm! Thank you for visiting us and sharing your experience with other travellers. During your visit in February, it is the dry season and yes, you are right to suggest to drink a lot of water when travelling around a tropical location. Inside the flight garden, there is an on and off misting system to... More

when you walk through the enclosure it is fascinating to watch butterflies of all different shapes colours and sizes dining on hibiscus flowers totally unaware of or uncaring at your close proximity. at the end of walk around there is an interesting museum and a well stocked gift shop.

this was an interesting visit to see lots of butterflies in once place however it was one way in and one way out - not wheelchair accessible at all and many people packed in. I wouldn't recommend it if you are in a wheelchair but for able body - good to see.

It was small , nice and beautiful garden. I went there with my kids and they like it and they have fun on it. One hour is enough for it .

Despite the humidity this was a wonderful experienc and a great photo opportunity. The staff were helpful ,especially by attracting the butterflies to land on our heads or hands. The setting is lush and vibrant....the flowers were brilliant. Great for all ages.
